So what happens when one of the day’s top artists gets annoyed with the YouTube sensation. She releases one of the crap songs off the end of her album as a single so she can make a music video mocking said YouTube sensation. And that’s how we’ve ended up with Katy Perry’s song Last Friday Night as this week’s WoM winner. It may not be the worst song in the world this week. It just has the least care put into it to make it music.
If memory serves (and it usually does), Katy Perry was quick vocal about not being a fan of Rebecca Black and her YouTube hit Friday. I’m sure that either had something to do with pushing back plans her release her own ode to Friday or the fact that someone could become an overnight sensation without showing off her breasts at every opportunity. In fact, Katy took an opportunity mid-concert to take a backhanded swipe at Rebecca while covering Friday. And she definitely did again in this video during the video game scene. Anyway, this is a generic sounding song about a blackout night of partying last Friday night. Now let’s sit back and wait for some concerned parents group to complain about how this song and music video promote underage drinking and sex.
So congrats, Katy. You’ve won the prestigious Worst of Music award for this week.
