The Best of The Lowdown Blog 2010
With the start of a new year today, let’s take a look back at the last 12 months on the blog. 2010 was an exciting year at Lowdown HQ with us blogging for a full year for the first time and leaving the comfort of campus radio at UWO for the wild world of podcasting. So let’s look back at the year with our most read posts from 2010, the most read posts overall in 2010 and our most listened to podcasts of 2010. Continue reading
Lowdown BlogCast Classic: December 25, 2007
Back in the day, The Lowdown actually did a proper Christmas special unlike what the last three turned into. This episode contains some of the best Christmas songs ever written and performed. The show includes songs by some of today’s big artists along with classic Christmas songs that you grew up listening to. The boys weren’t restricted by annoying radio management restrictions about Canadian content in this episode so it’s the best of the best. Over the course of the episode, there are nine songs for your holiday listening pleasure.

Lowdown BlogCast: December 21, 2010
It’s time once again for the annual Lowdown Christmas Special. Like last year’s Christmas episode, this year once again brings us a look at the weirdest and wackiest of Christmas music. There are a lot of bands and singers that you’ve heard of that have made bad Christmas music and we have found some pretty embarrassing entries into their musical repertoires. As an added bonus, the boys give you their annual Christmas gift buying guide as well as the usual ridiculous Lowdown banter that we’re known for.

Wednesday Link-Off: Snowed In
To warm you up on a cold day in most parts of Canada, here’s Arianny Celeste.
For the third straight day today, the University of Western Ontario is closed for a snow day. There’s been one snow day over the last five years so UWO students might struggle to think of things to do today. Fortunately, our pals at LDU have some suggestions to pass the time. (Lion’s Den U)
Gawker is changing the look of their blogs again. It looks like the beginning of a revolution of how you read blogs. (Sports Journalism)
Don Cherry was invited to give a speech to introduce new Toronto mayor Rob Ford to city council. What we got was a legendary speech. It’s so epic that a transcription was on the web within minutes. (Torontoist)
After the jump, the Sidney Crosby Christmas hockey card, Wolfenstein’s back (sorta) and a Taiwanese CGI news montage. Continue reading

2010 Uteck Bowl Wrapup
Unlike the NCAA, Canadian university football has a playoff to determine their national champion. Today was the semi-finals and our Western Mustangs took on the Laval Rouge et Or in Quebec City in a battle of the first and second ranked teams in the country. The winner of this game would advance to the Vanier Cup national championship game. So who took one more step to national supremacy and whose season ends early? Our live blog, analysis and expert analysis after the jump. Continue reading
Wednesday Link-Off: Discipline
Let’s kick off these links with Canada’s own Jessica Lowndes who celebrated her 22nd birthday with cupcakes.
With the CFL regular season in the books and division finals coming up this weekend, here’s a look at the five best and worst moments from this season. (55-Yard Line)
In the midst of a labour relations case that the NHL is involved in, several emails from Colin Campbell were made public. In one of them, he refers to one of the players he coached as a “little fake artist.” So who is this guy he loathes so much? (MC79 Hockey)
And speaking of NHL discipline, here’s Sean Avery cheapshotting Ladislav Smid. Doubt he’ll get suspended because Campbell likes the Rangers. (Tirico Suave)
After the jump, Brett Favre’s hypothetical benching, everybody does the Dougie and the return of DJ Steve Porter. Continue reading
Lowdown BlogCast Classic: October 28, 2008
In the midst of all the euphoria (we use that term very loosely) over our third anniversary, we realized that our first anniversary show wasn’t posted in our podcast archives. That’s because that episode was actually a Best Of episode of The Lowdown. This episode put together the best parts of the first three games of Season Two of The Lowdown. This classic Best Of episode starts with Steve’s adventures at 2008’s Homecoming weekend. That’s followed by some rapid fire segments including news about guys trying to outkick their coverage, 2008-09 season previews for the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs and Steve’s exploration of the internet. That’s followed up by the big Homecoming game recap package (which was one of our best produced segments ever). And the show wraps up with Steve’s tour of the UWO campus.
