Wednesday Link-Off: Leaked

adriana-lima-vsx16-03Well, the Democratic convention took an unexpected turn with the resignation of the DNC chair. Matters for the convention could have been a nice and easy affair, especially when compared with the Republican gong show. Instead, the week will be clouded in doubt over whether the right person won.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so it’s time for the links. Since we do talk some LOLympics later on in the post, here’s Brazilian model Adriana Lima.

It doesn’t speak well for the current system that a candidate’s team and party leadership were effectively working hand-in-hand. (Rolling Stone)

Sunday Link-Off: Convention Time

summer-rae-wwe16-10The Republican National Convention just wrapped up and it certainly wasn’t without controversy. The Democratic National Convention is about to kick off and I would expect is be equally a gong show. However, since the RNC just happened, I figure that I should focus on that first.

Anyway, it’s Sunday and it’s time for us to do the links. Since we have a big wrestling post coming tomorrow, let’s kick off with newly Raw exclusive wrestler Summer Rae.

Want to know the real Donald Trump? The ghostwriter of The Art Of The Deal explains how he started making the modern Trump. (The New Yorker)

How did Trump pick his running mate? Basically, his options largely eliminated themselves. (New York Times)

A big deal was made about Ted Cruz not endorsing Donald Trump. However, he had a good reason that I couldn’t argue with. (Rolling Stone)

Wednesday Link-Off: In Depth

alessandra-ambrosio-globalgiftgala-05This has been a pretty intense week in the worlds of news and politics. The Republican National Convention has been sidetracked by another Trump distraction. This time, it’s his wife plagiarizing a speech. The whole Trump campaign has been distracting everyone from the issues to focus on him so if you don’t talk about the issues, you can’t beat him on them. It’s worked to this point and it’s working this week. There’s also more chaos in Turkey and Fox News is in turmoil.

Anyway, it’s time for us to do the links. Since a model features prominently in this set of links, let’s kick off with model Alessandra Ambrosio.

It’s not looking very cheery at the Republican National Convention and that’s just on-screen. There’s a lot more turmoil behind the scenes. (Politico)

While I’m not sure anyone can accuse Donald Trump of stealing his words (the best words) from anyone else, the same can’t be said for his wife. She plagiarized a large portion Michelle Obama’s speech from the 2008 Democratic Convention. (USA Today)

Overlooked in the plagiarism scandal is the rhetoric that is being spouted at the RNC. (Vox)

Sunday Link-Off: Take It From the Top

michelle-beadle-espy16-02You can’t say that this weekend hasn’t been interesting in the world of politics. From this side of the world to the east of Europe, there has been interesting developments, for better or worse. Between Trump, Turkey and the Rio Olympics, you can’t say that we’re lacking for news this weekend.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means we have to do the other half of the weekend links. Let’s kick off with ESPN personality Michelle Beadle.

Is it possible that Donald Trump hurt his election chances with Independents more by picking Mike Pence as his running mate? (Sacramento Bee)

It’s an interesting choice because the two don’t agree on several important issues. Well, they didn’t agree but who can keep them tied to one position on an issue? (New York Times)

Trump is all about his branding. Somehow, a man so powered by his brand let a terrible logo be used for his campaign. (The Hill)

Wednesday Link-Off: The Road to Hell

jill-hennessy-theinfiltrator16-01They say that the road to hell is paved with the best intentions. A lot of the stories featured in today’s links are those taking questionable actions with the best of intentions. However, the results are taking society down a slippery slope.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday which mean’s that it’s time for the links. Let’s kick things off with Jill Hennessy.

The FBI used malware as part of a sting operation and have come under fire for using that malware to obtain evidence without a warrant. Their counterargument is that their malware is okay because they were using it for good. (Gizmodo)

The President of the Philippines has successfully gotten citizens to kill drug dealers. Now he wants them to kill drug addicts too. (Asian Correspondent)

Were you imprisoned because of a police roadside drug test? Chances are that it could have been a false positive. (Pro Publica)

Sunday Link-Off: All About the Economy

angie-harmon-rizzoliandisles16-11If you want to get people riled up, just talk anything that could be even tangentially related to politics. Of course, nothing in politics should be more divisive than economic policy. Do you put money in the hands of the 99% so they buy to drive the economy or the 1% so they invest to drive the economy? It seems like a simple question but that’s the most important debate in politics.

Anyway, it’s Sunday so we have to do the links. Let’s kick off with Angie Harmon.

Can a whole political party not have any clothes? The same Conservative Party that tried to end door-to-door mail delivery says that they’ll protect door-to-door mail delivery from the government. (Press Progress)

The Trans-Pacific Partnership was a small factor in last year’s Canadian federal election. What role will it play in 2016 US Presidential Election. (The Intercept)

It looks like the world loves Canadian economic policy. (The Economist)

Wednesday Link-Off: Both Sides of the Border

katy-perry-parkerinstitute16-02Who says that all the interesting news in America? We certainly have our share of noteworthy stories in Canada even if we don’t mention the pending Canada Post strike. For fun, there is even some big British stories in the links so we have the whole Commonwealth/colonial thing happening as well.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so we are obliged to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Katy Perry.

Iceland will be boycotting Israeli products until they end their occupation of Palestine. (PressTV)

His religious beliefs have been underplayed at the moment but is Donald Trump’s support showing there may be no need for religion in politics. (New York Times)

Wednesday Link-Off: Summer is Coming

maisie-williams-tribeca16-02Despite the fact that the temperature is supposed to be in the mid-teens (Celsius) in my part of Canada on July 1st, make no mistake. Summer is coming. Everyone around here makes the same damn Ned Stark joke so I want to lazily spin it on its head. Considering that Ned’s head is no longer attached to his shoulders, I can’t imagine that would be difficult. By the way, this week’s Game of Thrones review drops tomorrow rather than the usual Friday post date.

Anyway it’s Wednesday which means that it’s time for the links. Since Game of Thrones just wrapped up, let’s kick off with GoT star Maisie Williams.

The House’s Benghazi Report says that there was no wrongdoing on Hilary Clinton’s part. That’s not going to stop it from being a Republican talking point but she has something to fire back with. (New York Times)

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski has joined CNN to add his insight on the reality TV star turned Presidential candidate despite his relatively hostile relationship with the press. (Washington Post)

Despite fears of the foolish, the legalization of marijuana hasn’t led to the downfall of society. In fact, their teen marijuana use is lowest in America. (Foundation for Economic Education)

Sunday Link-Off: Battling Bregret

erin-heatherton-nhlawards16-01Did anything interesting happen in the news this week? Probably not. Nobody abandoned a multi-national political-economic unions. Nobody’s political campaign saw a power struggle end with a change of campaign managers. Nothing at all noteworthy.

Anyway, it’s Sunday so it’s time for us to do the links. Since we just got through the NHL awards and draft, here’s Erin Heatherton with the Stanley Cup.

Was Brexit a series of mistakes and apathy that allowed Leave to win or is it a sign that people are done with globalization? (MacLean’s)

It’s not just Americans planning a move to Canada because of a vote. Brits are looking to make a move to Canada because of the EU referendum. (Global)

Scotland voted to stay in the EU. Now, they’re thinking about separating from the UK so they could join the EU. There’s a hell of a way to galvanize an independence vote. (Mirror)

Brexit and the Car Industry (Infographic)

I haven’t been paying that much attention the EU Membership Referendum over in Britain. I thought this would be similar to the Scottish independence referendum in that it was a pretty cut and dry case that the economic benefits of free access to the European economy would make “remain” the overwhelming choice. Polling before today’s vote suggest that it’s too close to call and will come down to undecided voters.

Since we occasionally talk about cars, let’s take a look at what the motor industry thinks about the potential exit from EU in this handy infographic.
