Olympic Fails of the Week

The 2016 edition of the Olympics / LOLympics / Apocalympics have come and gone and we have to wait another 18 months before we can do this all again. I don’t think there will be as many problems nor will it be as fun to mock the South Koreans since they don’t really deserve it unless they really screw it up. But to conclude our examination of the 2016 Olympics, we look at more of the failures from Rio. So ten pictures, GIFs, videos, tweets and news stories with just some of the epic fails from the Rio Apocalympics so far.

Olympic Fails of the Week

We’re a week into the 2016 Olympics / LOLympics / Apocalympics and there have been all sort of failures at this year’s Rio Summer Games. So here seven pictures, videos, tweets and news stories with just some of the epic fails from the Rio Apocalympics so far.

Olympic Fails of the Week

Sure, we’re only a couple of days into the 2016 Olympics / LOLympics / Apocalympics but there have been all sort of failures at this year’s Rio Summer Games. So here eight pictures, videos, tweets and news stories with just some of the epic fails from the Rio Apocalympics so far. (Don’t worry. The French gymnast isn’t in here. That would be cruel.)

Sunday Link-Off: Apocalympics

nina-dobrev-instagram16-01bSo the 2016 Olympics are underway and none of the athletes have died as of writing. That’s a massive surprise considering all that’s gone wrong in the run up to the Olympics. The best thing to come out of Rio 2016 so far is the alternative to “LOLympics” of “Apocalympics.” Considering the dangerous conditions of Rio, that’s a more appropriate term.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that we’re here to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Nina Dobrev.

Right-leaning media personality Glenn Beck says that Russia hacked Hilary Clinton’s emails to take her down. This on top of smoke regarding Trump and his team’s connections to Russia can’t be coincidence. (The Hill)

President Trump would be hard on immigration despite immigration being a major part of American history and culture. Would he be as hard on his wife? Her record with regards to immigration and work visas is raising some serious questions. (Politico)

A woman in Dallas just ruined public information requests for the rest of us. She filed 89 of them and uncovered a Secret Service sex scandal. (Dallas Morning News)

Wednesday Link-Off: Leaked

adriana-lima-vsx16-03Well, the Democratic convention took an unexpected turn with the resignation of the DNC chair. Matters for the convention could have been a nice and easy affair, especially when compared with the Republican gong show. Instead, the week will be clouded in doubt over whether the right person won.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so it’s time for the links. Since we do talk some LOLympics later on in the post, here’s Brazilian model Adriana Lima.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz has resigned as chair of the DNC after leaked emails showed how anti-Sanders she was. (Washington Post)

It doesn’t speak well for the current system that a candidate’s team and party leadership were effectively working hand-in-hand. (Rolling Stone)

And Clinton staffers are worried that the leaks aren’t done. (The Hill)

Sunday Link-Off: Take It From the Top

michelle-beadle-espy16-02You can’t say that this weekend hasn’t been interesting in the world of politics. From this side of the world to the east of Europe, there has been interesting developments, for better or worse. Between Trump, Turkey and the Rio Olympics, you can’t say that we’re lacking for news this weekend.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means we have to do the other half of the weekend links. Let’s kick off with ESPN personality Michelle Beadle.

Is it possible that Donald Trump hurt his election chances with Independents more by picking Mike Pence as his running mate? (Sacramento Bee)

It’s an interesting choice because the two don’t agree on several important issues. Well, they didn’t agree but who can keep them tied to one position on an issue? (New York Times)

Trump is all about his branding. Somehow, a man so powered by his brand let a terrible logo be used for his campaign. (The Hill)

Wednesday Link-Off: Gone but Not Forgotten

Even though the 2014 Sochi LOLympics are gone, I’m not done reinforcing the fact that they’re an absolutely farce. However, since there are other things happening in the world, it’s not a solely LOLympic edition of the Wednesday links.

So let’s get this show on the road by starting with likely SI Swimsuit rookie of the year Samantha Hoopes.

A Duke University freshman became a porn actress to help her pay tuition. She learned some things about herself and society in doing so. (XO Jane)

Arizona’s Republican Governor says that she will veto the state’s anti-gay bill. Granted, she cites economic reasons for planning to veto but it’s still a win for people who aren’t assholes. (Business Insider)

Bonnie Ford examines the dichotomy of these LOLympics. Everything was fine on the surface but terrible when you looked away from sports. (espnW)

Olympic Fails of the Week

The 2014 Sochi LOLympics are so this is the last go at the Olympic fails. In my continuing efforts to point out how terrible the Sochi Organizing Committee and the IOC are as a result of everything happening at Sochi and in Russia, we once again look at some of the more embarrassing moments for the Sochi Olympics over the last week.

So here are eight pictures, tweets and GIFs of Sochi Olympic fails from the final week at the LOLympics.

Sunday Link-Off: Put Out The Flame, The Sham is Over

Greetings once again readers. Happy days are here again! Or, at least, they will be once the closing ceremony is done and the Sochi LOLympics are done for good. Then we can stop pretending that Russia is awesome. It’s not just their domestic policies that are terrible. Just look at their influence in Syria and Ukraine that are causing those countries to self-destruct.

Anyway, it’s Sunday so it’s time to kick the week off with the links. Since the SI Swimsuit Issue came out last week, here’s a little Canadian content with model Kate Bock.

Ukraine has been caught in a tug-of-war between closer ties with the EU and Russia. The government wants Russia. The people, the EU. This is the outcome. (NPR)

And the truce between the Ukrainian government and protesters doesn’t seem to be doing much to calm things. The protesters seem to have taken over Kiev while Yanukovych is on the run. (New York Times)

It’s a sad state of affairs when the media is more interested in who is reporting the news and using that to influence their interpretation of the reporting than they are in what is being reported. News just isn’t going to be the same as it was in the good old days. (Politico)

Wednesday Link-Off: Almost Time to Go Home

So with the SI Swimsuit Issue out yesterday, I’ve been wondering if I can say that I was right. I did predict a group cover, even if I called it an “All-Star Cover.” I think I should get double points because I had Kate Upton ranked second on the list and she was on the back cover.

However, today’s set of links isn’t going to feature any of the Swimsuit cover girls. Let’s start this off with the living legend Heidi Klum.

Russia isn’t the only place the world that hates gays. The Kansas government has created a law that allows business owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation. Not only is the law terrible but their reasoning is too. (The Dish)

Just because I’m boycotting the Sochi LOLympics doesn’t mean that others are. Some folks are tripping over themselves to praise these Olympics and Vlad Putin. (Toronto Star)

An Italian transgender former-MP was arrested for protesting that it was okay to be gay at the LOLympics. It is okay to be gay. Just not in Russia (or Kansas). (The Daily Beast)
