2015 Hottest Canadian Bracket Preview

Sometimes, an idea is so good and so unique that we have to do it again… after a three-year hiatus. For the first time since the initial event, it’s time for the second ever Hottest Canadian Bracket Challenge. This is the first, and therefore best, public poll/bracket to determine who is the hottest Canadian woman in the world.

After the jump, we have the bracket and the list of the first round match-ups.

Coming Soon: The 2015 Hottest Canadian Bracket

Three years ago, we tried a little experiment on the blog. We got into the swing of March Madness with our first bracketology tournament, the Hottest Canadian bracket. At the time, it was the first bracket dedicated to determining the people’s choice for the hottest Canadian woman in the world. After a few weeks of competition, Kristin Kreuk was named the first Hottest Canadian.

After a short hiatus, the Hottest Canadian showdown is coming back in 2015! There’s just one thing missing: the nominees. We have a draft list ready and ranked but we’re not going to get everyone that should be on the list on there and in the right spot.

Hit the jump for a nomination form and stay tuned for the first round in March.

Sunday Link-Off: News Madness

gracie-carvalho-next13-01It’s the end of the week which means it’s time for some links. This week will be pretty interesting because I’m planning to debut an IndyCar column this week. It’ll be along the lines of the F1 recap columns and hopefully you enjoy it as much as the F1 column. Along with that, we should have a couple of video game posts. Not sure what else we’ll have this week but we’ll figure it out.

For now, let’s start out with Gracie Carvalho.

You may know Matt Ufford from Kissing Suzy Kolber or SB Nation but before he became a prominent blogger, he was a US Marine. For the ten-year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, Ufford writes about his experience as a member of the first wave of Marines in the invasion and the lasting effect it had on him and his men. (GQ)

Now that the Steubenville rape case has been settled, it’s time to turn our attention to a similar case in Torrington, Connecticut, where people seem far more against the victim than in Steubenville. We need Anonymous to get some attention on this case and repay the victim bullying. (The Register Citizen)

Some say that now is the best time in history for access to news and information. However, local news is suffering because of free and open access to news on the internet. (The Atlantic) If free access to news would but an embarrassment of a newspaper like The Sault Star or a glorified press release aggregator like Soo Today out of business, I’m all for it.

2012 Hottest Canadian Final: Kristin Kreuk vs. Evangeline Lilly

Over the last three weeks, we’ve gone from the 32 hottest Canadians to 16 to 8 to 4 and now to the final two in our 2012 Hottest Canadian showdown. The bracket showdown started off with the favourites having a fairly easy time making their way through but we’ve got two lower seeds in the final. In one corner is currently unemployed Canadian actress Kristin Kreuk. In the other corner is equally as unemployed Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly. Who will be crowned the Hottest Canadian of 2012? The Economics of March Madness (Infographic)

The Final Four of March Madness goes down on Saturday and the final is Monday night. The final will be the 67th game played in the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship tournament over the last three weeks from the first game of the First Four to the final game of the Final Four. Over that time, over $175 million worth of worker productivity was lost.

For more on the dollars and cents of March Madness, we have a handy infographic for you. Continue reading

2012 Hottest Canadian: Final Four

After two weeks, we finally exited the regions stages of the competition and are left with only four women who can take home the crown of the Hottest Canadian for 2012. The Elite Eight was closely contested and left us with three upsets and only one #1 seed surviving out of the three that made it to the round of eight. Now, it’s up to you to vote for a final pairing to determine this year’s Hottest Canadian. Continue reading

2012 Hottest Canadian: Elite Eight

We’re down to the eight hottest Canadian women as voted by our readers. This round is our regional finals as each of the four “regions” that we broke the bracket into crown their champions. Upsets were in abundance in the Sweet Sixteen as three of our eight matchups had the lower seed pulling off the win. We even saw our first #1 seed bite the dust. Who will make it to Hottest Canadian Final Four? Continue reading

2012 Hottest Canadian: Prairies & Maritime Regions – Sweet Sixteen

We’re on to the second day of the Sweet Sixteen round of our Hottest Canadian competition. Of the eight women left in this half of the bracket, two of them were upset winners and each were #6 seeds. The rest of this half of the Sweet 16 are the top seeds from the Round of 32. Can our underdogs make their way to the Elite Eight? Continue reading

2012 Hottest Canadian: Shield & Arctic Regions – Sweet Sixteen

It’s the first day of the second round of the 2012 Hottest Canadian showdown. The original field of 32 has been cut in half to 16. Our first half of the Sweet Sixteen features a pair of upset winners from the Shield Region looking to advance to the Elite Eight. The Arctic Region was all chalk as the favourites made their way to the Sweet Sixteen. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Hung Up And Hungover

It’s 8:00 AM on the east coast on the day after St. Patrick’s Day so I don’t expect anyone to read this until at least six hours after it was posted. Anyway, I’ve been a bit busy this week covering the entertainment beat and working on the 2012 Hottest Canadian showdown. However, I haven’t forgotten the usual Sunday posts. But first, let’s kick this one of with my favourite SI Swimsuit model Cintia Dicker.

Would you believe that the biggest casino in America is actually in Connecticut? But Foxwoods Casino might not be able to hold onto that title as the casino industry is in massive trouble. (New York Times)

Don’t like the current state of professional wrestling? Well, blame Rick Santorum. The candidate for the Presidential nomination for the Republican Party was a lobbyist who helped get the wrestling industry deregulated which started us toward modern pro wrestling. (Mother Jones)

If you thought wrestling was bad for doping, wait until you find out what’s happening in wheelchair curling. (Deadspin)

After the jump, strange sports stats no one asked for, the guy behind Kony 2012 has too much fun in public and Gus Johnson’s greatest hits. Continue reading
