Sunday Link-Off: All About the Money

Now that I’ve had a chance to write-up the Sunday links, I’m not entirely certain that I didn’t burn all my good links on the entertainment links. All I really have left for today are politics links though everyone probably expects that for a set of the Sunday links.

Anyway, let’s actually get on with the links. Let’s kick things of with Victoria Justice.

A writer created a fake company to see if she could use various online services to make it look real. (Fusion)

While the rest of the EU is fighting over who has to take how many refugees, Turkey has spent $7.6 billion hosting over 2 million Syrian refugees. (New York Times)

Bernie Sanders might be instantly written off as a “tax-and-spend liberal” but his economic plan could save America trillions. (US Uncut)

Entertainment Link-Off: Wibbly Wobbly

jenna-coleman-polochallenge15-01Welcome, my friends, to the show that never ends. Jackie’s cashing in the favour I asked last week when he covered the SLO so I’m doing the entertainment links this week. I’ve actually got a pretty good week this week. Doctor Who is back today/tonight (depending on where you live) and most of the rest of TV is back next week.

And since Doctor Who is back and we have some links about her in this post, let’s kick off the links with Jenna Coleman.

After the jump, we have some Doctor Who-ish links, a look at the late-night landscape, a smattering of showbiz updates and more.

F1 Power Rankings: Singapore Grand Prix

When you’re on the road, it’s hard to keep track of the Formula One scheudle. I was so out of the loop that I missed that Roberto Merhi has been replaced for five of the next seven races by Alexander Rossi. Rossi sits P2 in GP2 so it’s not like he’s coming out of nowhere. But being an F1 rookie and running for Manor, I don’t rate his chances that well. Whose chances do I like? That’s why we have the Power Rankings.

A History of The Avengers (Infographic)

One thing that often happens when comic book movies come out is that fans will compare the comics to the movies. Sometimes, the comparisons are favourable. Sometimes, less so. I’d like to think that the likes of The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were better movies than the comics. Spider-Man and the later X-Men movies, on the other hand, should probably have stuck to print.

Anyway, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a very limited number of Avengers through the first two movies. That’s in direct contrast to the never ending members of the Avengers throughout the years in the Marvel Comicverse, including to this very day. To see who is and has been part of the Avengers through the years, we have a handy little infographic for you.

Wednesday Link-Off: Time Off

adriana-lima-gigi-hadid-nyfw15-01After a weekend off to get incredibly drunk and surprisingly less hungover than I was expecting, I’m back to do the links. The sad thing is that I’m not really sure how much I missed in the world of news. It feels like nothing happened and yet I somehow ended up for more links than usual. Whatever works, I guess.

Anyway, it’s time for the links. Let’s kick off with personal favourite Adriana Lima and up and coming model Gigi Hadid.

Looking for strategic voting info. There’s a site for that. (Anyone But Harper)

Former Prime Minister Jean Cretien spit hot fire about Stephen Harper. (CBC News)

Paul Watson’s report on the search for the Franklin Expedition by the Canadian government was published. It has a lot of info about the inner workings of the search and the Canadian government. (BuzzFeed)

Movie Cars You Can Drive (Infographic)

If you’re in the GTA and watched the news, read the paper or been anywhere downtown, you’re well aware that the 40th Toronto International Film Festival opened up last weekend. I’ve actually been lucky enough to catch a couple of movies (Freeheld and Guantanamo’s Child: Omar Khadr) and will have reviews coming up in the next little bit.

To celebrate the launch of TIFF 2015, we were sent a handy little infographic that explores some of the most famous cars in cinema history. If ever you wanted to know about the history, price and specs of some of the best cars in the history of movies.

Fails of the Week

Every so often, we take a look at the most epic fails from the week that was in the Fails of the Week. This week, we have five pictures and videos that we think are the most epic fails of the week. And, no, trying to buy tickets for TIFF is not included in this. Should be, though.

Sunday Link-Off: 3, 2, 1 and Smile

Selena-Gomez-RevivalSo Steve is away this weekend, so that means it’s a double dose of links from me! *crickets* Alright, I appreciate the love here. Luckily I do have some free time this weekend to compile something for you. Let’s kick this off with Selena Gomez. You can catch her in the sequel to Neighbours next year as she causes havoc on Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a sorority moves next door this time around. Sounds like fun.

After the link, Drake is cursing the world of sports, animating classic Disney characters in 3D, try pronouncing the warmest place in Wales, not all selfies are cool and finally, the next mode of transportation is not the hover-board, it’s the cardboard! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Heat Wave

kaya scodelarioThe Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is in cinemas this weekend (at least in Australia anyway). The sequel is holding steady on the Tomatometer as we speak, so hopefully it’ll like up to the quality of the first flick. Let’s kick off the ELO with one of the stars from the flick Kaya Scoledario.

After the jump, a tease on Transformers 5, some smart movie marketing, Kong will face off against Godzilla, we’ve all been pronouncing Voldemort wrong and M. Night Shyamalan made one of the best comedies of 2008. Continue reading
