As seems to be the case fairly often in the feature, I hadn’t heard of Tyga until selecting this week’s Worst of Music winner. But his ascension into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 got my attention. It’s all about action this weekend at the box office. You can catch George Lucas’ passion project WWII flick Red Tails starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. There’s also Gina Carano’s acting debut in Haywire. Of course, for those who are fans of seeing Kate Beckinsale with blue contacts and in a tight black corset outfit, Underworld: Awakening is at a theatre near you. The Underworld films have never been great, but somehow Kate Beckinsale does the trick when it comes to drawing me to the theatre, so let’s kick start the ELO with her.

Thursday Link-Off: Back Online
The world is back online today after yesterday’s blackout protest to combat SOPA. It turns out that we weren’t blacked out but we do have that snazzy anti-SOPA ribbon in the upper-right. Speaking of snazzy, that’s one way of describing Jessica Alba at the Golden Globes.

What Is SOPA and Why Is The Internet Shutdown Today?
Today is an internet wide protest against SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, and PIPA, the Protect IP Act. Both these acts were drafted as a measure to curb online piracy but it can be politely described as the shotgun approach to a solution. It basically makes everyone liable for piracy from the companies doing any unauthorized streaming or hosting of files, any company that is deemed to facilitate said streaming or downloading, and anyone actually doing the downloading or streaming. In other words, everyone one on the internet could potentially run afoul of SOPA.
