Not News of the Week

If it’s not worth talking about, then it must be the Not News of the Week.

A Houston woman got into a car crash with a bus while driving her three kids. When she got out of her car, it wasn’t to find help. She was getting ice cream from the nearby CVS Pharmacy. If that wasn’t enough to cool her down, she also stripped while eating the ice cream. For her trouble, the woman was charged with child endangerment. I hope she tries to defend herself on the grounds of it being 91+ degrees that day. Continue reading

Formula One: 2012 Silverstone Young Drivers Test Recap

As a cost-saving measure, some teams had proposed holding the annual young drivers test at Silverstone after the British Grand Prix rather than holding in Abu Dhabi after the season ended. However, not all the teams agreed with the proposal so we were left with three of the smaller teams sticking around after the British GP to test some potential future F1 stars. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Newsbreak

Last week might have been the slowest sports week of the year but that doesn’t mean we have a shortage of links today. It just means that we have few sports links. Anyway, let’s kick off with Canada’s Nina Dobrev in her place.

While Canadians were proud of the role that our armed forces played in Afghanistan, our allies weren’t so impressed. In fact, they think we were way out of depth. (CBC News)

A law professor wrote a paper for the Saint Louis University Law Journal about Jay-Z’s 99 Problems. Jay’s got 99 Problems but he’d have far fewer if he knew the law. (Gawker)

The Freeh Report into Penn State’s role in the Sandusky affair was released last week. Suffice to say that no one in power at Penn State comes out looking good. (Yahoo Sports)

After the jump, ESPN has a problem with sources, some Comic Con coverage and what’s in Big Mac sauce. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Geek Out!

Nothing fancy out in theatres this weekend unless you’re into the whole Ice Age series. Perhaps it will be a good weekend to just catch up on the films that you’ve missed out on previously. It’s also Comic-Con weekend, so those that are lucky enough to take part in the event can go geek out over in San Diego instead. Anyway let’s kick off this edition of the ELO with Mila Kunis who is starring in the hit comedy Ted. She’s also appearing at this year’s Comic-Con so be on the lookout!

After the jump, a sneak peek at upcoming films like Pacific Rim, Elysium, Oz: The Great and the Powerful and The Hobbit, a few more tidbits on The Dark Knight Rises, fanboys vs. fangirls, Aaron Sorkin teaches you how to make movies and finally Gary Oldman channels his inner R. Kelly. Continue reading

Caption This: July 7 – 13, 2012

Inspired by the Globe and Mail’s caption writing person, we waste our time writing funny picture captions for some of the more interesting photos we come across when blogging. So here are some of the best pictures from the past week with a funny (-ish) caption. Continue reading

The Best of Animals Being Dicks (Part 2)

It’s been about 10 months since we first featured this week’s Best of the Interweb site. It’s a Tumblr blog that collects hilarious animated GIFs of animals being dicks called Animals Being Dicks. If you think it’s funny to watch animals be jerks to humans and other animals, then this 21st century equivalent to America’s Funniest Home Videos is for you. Continue reading

Man Lab Showdown: Barbara Palvin vs. Lais Ribeiro

For the return from hiatus edition of the Man Lab Showdown, we have a battle between two of Victoria’s Secret’s newest stars. Among the latest new crop of Victoria’s Secret hires, these two seem to have become the most popular. In one corner is Barbara Palvin, a Hungarian newcomer to Victoria’s Secret who has only modelled for them since the start of the year. In the other, Lais Ribeiro from Brazil who has burst onto the scene with two commercials for Victoria’s Secret over the last year. Both are in for a long future in the spotlight as they’re both under 20 years old.

More photos and the poll after the jump. Continue reading

Ken Block’s Gymkhana Five

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Ken Block hooning about in a cloud of tire smoke in one of his famous Gymkhana videos. The YouTube legend took to the streets of San Francisco for his fifth Gymkhana video. He continues his war on tires with donuts around trams, a visit from Travis Pastrana and a visit to world-famous Lombard Street. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: The Real Story

I’ve spent most of this week away from the interweb but hopefully have put together a halfway decent linkdump. In case I missed the mark, here’s Zoe Duchesne.

CNN and Fox News got the Obamacare decision horribly wrong in the race to be first with the news. They came first and finished last. Here’s how the SCOTUS decision played out in the media. (SCOTUS Blog)

Daniel Tosh is colossal douche. You have to be one to make jokes about a heckler getting gang raped. (Think Progress)

Before RIM CEO Thorsten Heins faced the wrath of shareholders, he answered the questions of the common folk. Well, he answered the softball questions of common folk. (The Globe and Mail)

After the jump, a look at the NASCAR drug policy, apparently there’s lots of sex in the Olympic Village and the viral video of the week. Continue reading

2012 Toronto Indy Wrapup

The top level of open-wheel racing in North America went to Toronto for the 26th time this weekend. This weekend was a complete change from the previous IndyCar races around Exhibition Place in Toronto. The car was new, the engines were new and the crew in race control were new. Twenty-five cars raced around the streets of Toronto for the first of two Canadian stops on the IndyCar calendar led by Canadian drivers James Hinchcliffe and Alex Tagliani. Continue reading
