While America could definitely use gun control, sometimes people learn about the importance of it themselves. For example, take an 18-year-old Florida man who learned the hard way about cleaning guns. He accidentally shot himself while cleaning the gun. The bullet passed through his penis and left testicle before ending up in his thigh. Suffice to say that he’ll only be shooting blanks from now on. Continue reading
Sunday Link-Off: Under Control
We’ve reached the end of another week. Shockingly, I didn’t freeze to death here in Canada. The week before last was above zero and most of the snow melted. From Thursday through to last night, I’d say I’ve seen about a foot-and-a-half of snow. Why the hell did anyone establish a permanent settlement somewhere so cold and snowy? Anyway, let’s heat things up with Jennifer Garner.

Entertainment Link-Off: The Start of Awards Season
I’m still covering for Jackie while the internet tubes in Australia unmelt. Did I mention that it was really hot in Australia this week? I think I heard something on the BBC about the heat melting the train/subway system in Sydney. Not that 45° C is that hot… Or that I woke up to -19° C yesterday before tacking on another nine degrees of windchill.
Anyway, this would be a good weekend to warm up at the movies. There are three new releases in theatres this week. Arnold is back in The Last Stand. Mahk Wahlberg stahs in Broken City. I don’t know if he sounds like Tommy from Quiznee in the movie. Finally, Jessica Chastain follows up her Golden Globe winning performance in Zero Dark Thirty by appearing in the horror flick Mama. Only Mama is fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and the three average out to 48%. So, like I said, it WOULD be a good weekend at the movies but it clearly isn’t… Unless you want to watch the Governator. That’s acceptable.

Spec Ops: The Line Review (or Do You Know the Enemy?)
Despite having yet to play it, I named Spec Ops: The Line as one of my 12 favourite games of 2012. The game created a fair bit of discussion about its story which delved into the psychological effects of war on soldiers. I was amazed that a military shooter, a genre that usually omits any effort when it comes to storytelling in lieu of spending money on graphics and multiplayer content, was making waves over its plot and a complex sounding plot at that.
I figured that I couldn’t name the game one of my 12 favourites of last year without giving it a try. So when it went on sale during the recent Steam sale, I put my money where my mouth was to see if it was actually worth a spot on the blog’s de facto year-end award list. Continue reading

This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is the premier classic and rare car auction in the world. It’s the sort of thing that rich people go to for buying new status symbols and where real men go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. It’s basically a week-long celebration of the car where gearheads are king.
