The National Hockey League is gearing up for another season. This year, we’ve reached the fifth season since the lockout destroyed chances that the NHL could become a mainstream sport in America. That doesn’t mean that we can’t put together a big preview. Last year, we were going to use a song to preview each team’s season on the radio show but there were some small copyrights issues that would have cost us a lot of money. Doesn’t mean that we can’t do it online. Since, I want this to be a challenge, Carolina fans won’t see “Rock You Like A Hurricane” or any other play on words songs. Continue reading

EA Sports Announces 2010 Music Lineup
Many gamers, including myself, look to the newest video games for the latest in great music and no one puts more effort into their game soundtracks than EA. I’m always looking at EA Sports’ latest games for music to use on The Lowdown radio show. However, this year marks a change in philosophy for EA’s music crew. This year, they’re mixing some great new music with some older classics. They’re also mixing songs from bigger acts with songs from some less known acts on all of their soundtracks. So, want to know what you expect to hear when you get in the game? Find the soundtracks to Madden 10, NHL 10, NBA Live 10, and FIFA 10 after the jump. Continue reading
Chickenfoot Review
It’s not often that a new band releases its first album with as much hype and as big an advertising budget as Chickenfoot. Then again, not all bands have the former lead singer and the former bassist of Van Halen, the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s drummer, and a guitar legend. So you can understand why expectations are so high for this supergroup. And I review their debut album after the jump. Continue reading
The Top Ten James Bond Theme Songs
Today, I’ve decided to do something a little different. If you listened to the season finale of the radio show (and if you missed it, you can find it here), you would remember we used the theme from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me in the “Your Life in Song” segment. While it was a great song, I wasn’t entirely sure that it was the greatest Bond theme ever. So I decided to figure out what was the greatest Bond movie theme song of all time. Continue reading
The Saturdays are Workin’ It
The Saturdays have released the video for their upcoming single ‘Work’. While the band has yet to officially release any material in North America (their first single ‘If This Is Love’ is getting some airplay on Virgin Radio in Toronto), there is no doubt they have the potential to make it big. Just take a look at the video after the jump.
What Were They Thinking: KISS Haters
What Were They Thinking is a semi-regular segment on The Lowdown radio show. We take a look at something completely ridiculous and ask “what were they thinking”. On our first online edition of WWTT, we go to my hometown of Sault Ste. Marie where a city councillor has deemed that KISS is too “sick and revolting” to play in the Soo. Continue reading
Lowdown Music Show Play List
So we tried our hand at being a music show on Sunday. If you were interested, here’s the songs we spun while acting like real DJ’s. A special thanks to those who called in to chat and make requests. Another shout out to our recurring guest Graham Page who chatted with us about soccer, motorsports and cars in the run up to 2:00 AM. The songs listed in red are what I picked and the songs in turquoise are Jackie’s picks. Continue reading
