Sunday Link-Off: Power and Politics (of Money)

It’s been a long week but I’m working on a few things in my offline life (not directly related to the ol’ 9-to-5) so I could either free up a whole lot of time for blogging and other extracurricular pursuits or magically lose it all. That doesn’t sound too mutually exclusive, does it?

Despite Edgar Wright’s departure, the final product is still quite enjoyable and there are certain parts of the movie that still carry the style of the director who departed from the movie during pre-production. Game of Thrones – Episode Four Review: Old Wounds

game-of-thrones-episode-four-headerAfter the last episode of Game of Thrones (A Telltale Game Series), I lamented the fact that it felt like the story was far too on-rails for my liking and that the Forrester clan were getting no hope spots in their continuing battle to save their House from being crushed by the combined forces of House Whitehill and the various Bolton and Lannister forces. While the latter doesn’t really change that much (it is a Telltale game after all), we finally see a glimmer of hope and a little comeback from Team Ironrath.

Given that we’ve been beaten down emotionally by Game of Thrones on TV and in the game, it was nice to have that little bit of hope.

Wednesday Link-Off: Work Harder, Not Smarter

You can be amazing at your job but if the guy one cubicle down is working more hours than you, he’ll get the drop on you if he’s half as good as the next worst person there. Such is life. The Economics of Star Wars (Infographic)

Star Wars is a tale of good vs. evil, the little man against the oppressive regime, and how self-belief begets shrewd negotiations that allowed the creator to retain the rights to sequels, merchandising and a significant portion of the box office gross.

Okay, Star Wars isn’t so much about the last point but that doesn’t mean that a little sci-fi movie that no studio really believed in didn’t become the poster child for the mega movie franchise. Star Wars (AKA Episode IV: A New Hope) was made for a tiny $14 million. It made over $775 million at the box office and nearly double that when adjusted for inflation. That’s just one of the cool facts about the dollars and cents of Star Wars we have for you in this handy infographic.

Sunday Link-Off: The Old Jobs and New

You know, the old gods and new that they’re always talking about. There isn’t anything in the way of Comic Con links in this linkdump because Jackie has that covered in the ELO but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have interesting things to read.
