Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: Drafting A Winner

The hopes and dreams of every franchise start with the NHL draft. Whether you draft #1 or #30, you’re always looking for the next big star that can carry your team to the next level. The New York Islanders have the first pick in this year’s draft and are desperate to rebound from an embarrassing 2008-09 campaign. Heading into the draft, no one by Isles management knew who the #1 pick would be. Would they take scoring machine John Tavares, defensive giant Victor Hedman, or character player Matt Duchesne? The Humanoids: Premiere Edition

Welcome to my new weekly column. On The Humanoids, I look at nine people, places, or organizations that are in the news and knock the piss out of them (for lack of a better description). If you’re a fan of Deadspin, you’ll notice that this is a less funny and shorter Will Leitch’s Ten Humans column. And if you’re a fan of pro wrestling, you’ll know I borrowed the title from Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. But that doesn’t mean this failed stand-up comic doesn’t still have some tricks up his sleeve. Steve’s Ridiculous NHL Mock Draft

I’ve read at least a half-dozen mock drafts for tomorrow’s NHL Entry Draft. All of them are very clean and neat. No one will make any trades. No owners are going to meddle in draft choices and leave everyone scratching their heads. Well, let’s face it, we don’t live in the utopian world that most mock drafts exist in. That’s why I’ve decided to do a mock draft based not on the best players or who would fit best with a team but based on who is doing the drafting.

Since I know very little about the players in the draft, I’ll cap this at the top ten. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some interesting results. Continue reading

June 22nd Monday Night Raw Live Blog

Welcome to our second Monday Night Raw semi-live blog. Like our last live blog, we’ll be on a 15 minute delay because we’re watching Canadian TV. On tonight’s Raw, Donald Trump will hold court on the first Raw episode under his ownership. In his first act as Raw owner, Trump announced that tonight’s show will be commerical-free on the USA Network in America. Will the same hold true in Canada on The Score? We also have a big and likely bloody main event as Randy Orton will defend his WWE Title against Triple H in a Last Man Standing match. Anything can happen in the WWE, but will the same be said about Raw is Trump? Continue reading

F1 British GP: I Give Up On TSN and Jarno Trulli

For the final time, the British Grand Prix was held at Silverstone. Sebastian Vettel took the win in a Red Bull one-two finish. Sadly, though, this won’t be the last Grand Prix aired on TSN. Once again, they managed to bring their coverage down a notch. Continue reading

gina-carano-maxim1In honour of our first link, here’s Gina Carano. After reading the first link, I hope she looking as good after her next fight. And insert the sorta obvious Gina Carano hold joke here.
