Man Lab Showdown: Kelly Brook vs. Rosie Jones

The 2012 Summer Olympics in London officially wrap-up on Sunday. That seemed like an appropriate occasion to use as a theme for this month’s Man Lab Showdown. This time, we have a couple of British models facing-off. In one corner is Kent-born Kelly Brook who is one of the most famous British glamour models and FHM’s 2005 sexiest woman in the world. In the other corner is up-and-coming model Rosie Jones from the small town of Sunbury-on-Thames who was Nuts Magazine’s 2010 sexiest woman.

Running Toward Better Health (Infographic)

With the athletics (AKA track & field) events of the 2012 Olympics underway in London, I thought this would be a timely infographic to run. Running is increasingly becoming a more common way for people to work out and stay in shape. Sure, it might be a bit tough on your knees but running can go a long way to making you a better you. Wednesday Link-Off: And The Games Roll On

As I was going through possible choices to lead off today’s linkdump, I realized that I hadn’t featured a Canadian Olympian. So let’s kick this post off with Canadian heptathlete and hurdler Jessica Zelinka.

Good news! No, great news! The Curiosity rover landed safely on Mars! (io9) So can we send a man to Mars soon?

Mitt Romney has a plan to cut taxes. Actually, no, he doesn’t have a plan. He just says he’ll cut taxes. He has no idea what he’s doing or will do. (Bloomberg)

Not to dwell or anything but the Canadian women’s national team got royally hosed by an incompetent Norwegian official in the Olympic semi-final against the US. (Toronto Star)

After the jump, more on the soccer controversy, interesting Olympic stories and a Batman version of Call Me Maybe. Continue reading

Not News of the Week

It’s time for another edition of the weirdest and wackiest stories from around the world. It’s time for the not news of the week.

The Republicans might be complaining about the new law stating that health insurance providers must pay for contraception but they wouldn’t if they saw this story from Arizona. When a bull is in the mood for some loving, there’s nothing you can do to stop him. A bull being led across a field decided it was in a romantic mood. The bull chased its handler and pinned the man against a police cruiser where it tried to mate with him. The man got away without having to make a walk of shame but the mounted police car received some minor damage. So maybe contraception isn’t as great an evil as the Republicans and the religious right want you to believe. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Nikki Yanofsky – I Believe

It’s Day 10 of the London 2012 Olympics and I’ve had enough of Canada winning medals. It has nothing to do with hating my country. I think our athletes are doing amazing despite the media’s initial doom and gloom. No, my problem is the awful, clichéd, melodramatic song that CTV plays over a melodramatic highlights package after every Canadian medal victory. So for ruining my enjoyment of both the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and London 2012 Summer Olympics, this week’s worst of music is CTV’s Olympic theme song I Believe by Nikki Yanofsky. Sunday Link-Off: Taking It To The Track (And Field)

We’ve reached the second Sunday of the Olympics. The track and field events have started at the Olympic Stadium. Therefore, it’s only fitting that we continue our women of the Olympics series with British heptathlete and Olympic women’s heptathlon gold medalist Jessica Ennis.

WADA and the IOC say that Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen isn’t on drugs. After seeing this article of a Chinese athlete training factory, I can kind of see how that might happen. People will object to cheap labour making their $100 designer t-shirts but not this? (The Daily Mail)

Everyone thinks Penn State’s football program was hit with rather harsh, nearly permanently crippling, penalties for the Sandusky scandal but it could have been worse. Penn State had to either accept the sanctions handed down or risk the death penalty. (Outside the Lines)

GQ put together a very well-written feature about the Anders Breivik massacre in Norway. (GQ)

After the jump, Olympic media coverage issues, Mitt Romney’s Twitter nemesis, and a two-minute summary of life in America. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce!

It’s Total Recall weekend. Yes, the highly anticipated remake of the 1990 sci-fi flick. Well this time around, instead of Ah-nold, there’s Colin Farrell. That’s not really the big news, the big thing about the movie is the eye candy, so let’s kick off this ELO with the leading ladies from the film Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.

After the jump, James Bond is back in action, The Hobbit takes another unexpected journey, a few tidbits regarding How I Met Your Mother and watch Bill Nye teach you how to tie a bow tie. Continue reading

Inspired by the Globe and Mail’s caption writing person, we waste our time writing funny picture captions for some of the more interesting photos we come across when blogging. So here are some of the best pictures from the past week with a funny (-ish) caption. Continue reading

LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta Impressions

Last weekend, United Front Games held the North American public beta test for their upcoming LittleBigPlanet Karting game. The LBP series is one of Sony’s anchor franchises on the PlayStation 3 and the game that epitomizes the “Play, Create, Share” brand/campaign that Sony championed with LBP’s launch. Now it makes the transition from platformer to racing game with developer Media Molecule being swapped for UFG who developed the critically acclaimed Play, Create, Share game ModNation Racers.

So how does the LittleBigPlanet Karting beta stack up to the rest of the LBP series and how is it shaping up ahead of its fall release? Continue reading

How Much Does It Cost To Be Batman and Iron Man? (Infographic)

As awesome as it would be to be Batman or Iron Man, the cost of all those gadgets would bankrupt all but the richest people in the world. The cost of being the two legendary heroes is an estimated $2.3 billion (yes, with a “b”). Fortunately, for Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark, their combined net worths are in excess of $36.6 billion divided between a $7 billion value of Wayne Enterprises, Tony Stark’s $9.3 billion personal net worth and $20.3 billion value of Stark Industries.

For these facts and more information about two of the biggest superheroes on the big screen, we have a handy infographic that crunches the numbers. Continue reading
