Worst of Music: Katy Perry – Last Friday Night

So what happens when one of the day’s top artists gets annoyed with the YouTube sensation. She releases one of the crap songs off the end of her album as a single so she can make a music video mocking said YouTube sensation. And that’s how we’ve ended up with Katy Perry’s song Last Friday Night as this week’s WoM winner. It may not be the worst song in the world this week. It just has the least care put into it to make it music. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: Summer Daze

Almost conveniently since I mentioned her in yesterday’s ELO, here’s Sarah Carter. I think she needs to find a new hair stylist and Esquire needs to find someone better to run their photoshoots.

Mark Cuban’s lawyer wins life. Mavs minority owner Ross Perot Jr. filed a suit against Cuban saying he ruined the team. Cuban’s lawyer fired back with pictures of the Mavs with the NBA Championship. The defense rests. (Dallas Observer)

In other basketball news, who would have figured that Ron Artest would have dropped his therapist? He must have. Why else would he be changing his name to Metta World Peace. (Deadspin)

Washington Nationals manager Jim Riggleman resigned after bringing the team back up to 0.500 because he didn’t get a contract extension. Don’t worry though. He didn’t take losing his job too hard. (Washington Post)

After the jump, if you smell what The Rock is cooking, the games of summer and Peyton and Eli’s lockout job. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Bad Weekend

Sadly, this is my last entertainment linkdump for a while. I guess you’ll just have to make up for my indefinite absence with Alison Haislip. No, she’s not starring in anything this weekend but she’s on G4 which is good enough a reason. After all, the movies this weekend are Bad Teacher and Cars 2 which I’ve read aren’t worth the time of day.

The Killing season finale was bad but I might be the only person on earth who doesn’t think it was the worst finale of all-time. Bill Simmons is one of those folks saying it sucked and isn’t afraid to say it. (Grantland)

After the jump, Megan Fox fail, Star Wars win and the worst movies of the summer. Continue reading

The Best of Barrett-Jackson Orange County 2011

This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Orange County, California. The Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction is the most recent addition to the Barrett-Jackson auction circuit. While there aren’t as many cars (or as high prices) as the original Scottsdale auction, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a proper man’s weekend where guys go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. So to celebrate California’s biggest collector car show where the cars and not the manufacturers are the stars, here are ten of my favourite cars from this weekend’s auction. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: European Grand Prix

It’s back to Europe for the summer stretch of the Formula One World Championship. The European Grand Prix held around the streets of the harbour of Valencia is the fourth-to-last race before the annual summer break. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the worst races on the calendar. But with the KERS and double DRS zones, maybe there’s hope for this race. And hope is all 23 drivers in the field are clinging to if they think they can beat Sebastian Vettel. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Safety Dance

Here’s the new Miss USA Alyssa Campanella. Hopefully we see more of her than last year’s Miss USA.

The Onion wants a Pulitzer Prize. It’s just too bad that the Pulitzer Board doesn’t have a sense of humour. (New York Times)

Ever wonder what would happen if NBA stars played against each other in their primes? Well SI and Strat-o-Matic try to figure out with this ultimate NBA fantasy draft. (Sports Illustrated)

The WSJ analyzed athlete tweets. Not surprisingly is their favourite topic is themselves. (Wall Street Journal)

After the jump, more from the Vancouver riots, craptacular video game brands and everybody look at your hands. Continue reading

The John Isner – Nicolas Mahut Zombie Blog 2011

Last year, the biggest story of Wimbledon wasn’t Nadal or Federer or Serena Williams or any of the usual cast of characters. It was a pair of zombies out on Court 18 by the names of John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. Well, whether by design or coincidence, the tennis gods pair the tennis zombies back together for a rematch in the first round this year. Unfortunately, this year’s battle didn’t live up to last year’s insanity. That didn’t stop The Guardian’s live blogger Paolo Bandini from having some fun with the match.

After the jump, we have Paolo’s play-by-play of the revenge of the zombie tennis stars. Continue reading

Facebook Fails of the Week

Every so often, we look at the most spectacular fails that the internet has to offer. Well today, we look at the most spectacular fails that Facebook has to offer. This week, we have five of the best Facebook fails to offer. Continue reading

Worst of Music: Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem

There was a surprise in this week’s Billboard Hot 100. The #9 song wasn’t a hip-hop or dance track. It was actually a country song. But this isn’t just a regular country song. It’s the nearly impossible to comprehend hybrid of twangy southern country and rap. I never thought it would happen but it has and it definitely shouldn’t have. This week’s WoM winning offender is Jason Aldean with Dirt Road Anthem. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: I Predict A Riot

Well, it was either make a riot joke or wish folks a Happy Father’s Day. Well, maybe leading off with Kate Upton will make guys happy and most men would riot to get to her. Covered both there.

The biggest story of the Vancouver Riot was probably the couple kissing in the middle of the street. Well, it turns out that they weren’t Vancouverites at all but Aussie tourists. (9News)

Meanwhile, the folks at the Death Star Public Relations department have uncovered a famous kiss-in-the-middle-of-a-riot photo from a long time ago. (Death Star PR)

But all the photos that were taken of the riot are doing some good. Police picked up one high schooler who was in one of the more memorable photos. (Deadspin)

After the jump, Father’s Day links, the greatest sports venues in the world and Regis wants to know about internet porn. Continue reading
