Lowdown Radio Classic: November 13, 2007

While I work on the next episode of the radio show, I thought why not post a classic episode of the show that I really like. This episode goes back to the beginnings of The Lowdown radio show. In fact, it was our second ever episode and you can really tell the difference between then and now. In this vintage episode, Steve talks with Michael Parkin, a UWO economics professor and former president of the Canadian Economics Association, about the fluctuating value of the Canadian dollar. On entertainment, the guys discuss the latest Westlife single, Home, and compare it to the Michael Bublé original. They also tackle the then days old TV and movies writers strike which prompts Steve to call a strike. The show ends with sports which was the NHL quarter-season review and the first time we play Toss Up for the first time ever. In case you were wondering, that game makes a return on Tuesday. As an added bonus, we’ve touched up the episode a bit to improve the sound.

Not News of the Week

permanent-marker-robbersAs the Not News seems to prove time and time again, Americans just aren’t that bright. Two men broke into an apartment but were arrested while getting away. Police didn’t have too much trouble matching the men to witness descriptions because their masks were just permanent marker scribbled on their face. The two men, naturally, were drinking before their break-in and, combined with their stupidity, they were easily caught by laughing police. The local police chief says this was easily the weirdest and worst attempt at disguise in his nearly 30 years on the force. Continue reading →

F1 Abu Dhabi GP: All’s Well That Ends Well

f1-abu-dhabi-2009-vettel-webber-victoryIt was both a last and a first yesterday at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. It was the last race of the 2009 Formula One season but it was the first race at the Yas Marina Circuit and the first F1 race that started in daylight and ended at night. The adventure into the dusk and desert of the United Arab Emirates was about the only drama heading into this race. It wasn’t helped by Sebastian Vettel walking away for his fourth win of the season in a largely dominant victory. Continue reading →
