Formula 1: Mercedes To Buy Brawn GP
It was a move that was rumoured to go through for the 2011 season but the executives moved up their plans by a year. Mercedes Motorsports will buy a controlling interest in this year’s F1 World Constructors’ Champion, Brawn GP, and rename the team Mercedes Grand Prix for the 2010 Formula One World Championship. F1 Off-Season Fallout: Back To The Future
The 1970s is informally referred to as the kit car era of Formula One. That was a time where most of the grid was running the Cosworth DFV V8 and a Heyland transaxle (gearbox, differential, and drive axle all in one). Only BRM and Ferrari weren’t running that combination in their cars. Over thirty years after the end of the kit car era, it looks as though we could be heading straight back to that. With the recent withdrawals of Honda, BMW, and Toyota, and the rumoured withdrawal of Renault, we could be headed back to kit car era. Continue reading

F1 Belgian GP: Forza Ferrari and Fisichella
Spa is known for having exciting and unpredictable racing but no one could have possibly imagined that a Force India would sit on the pole for the Belgian Grand Prix. I doubt anyone would have thought that Giancarlo Fisichella would have taken his Force India and pushed race winner Kimi Raikkonen for the whole race, as well. But that’s what happened in a finish that was even crazier than last year’s dry and wet battle between Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. Continue reading

A draft version of the 2010 Formula One calendar has been circulating the paddock area at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. F1 Summer Break: What F1 Is Doing On Its Summer Vacation
Just because nothing is happening on track during Formula One’s annual summer vacation, doesn’t mean the sport has shut down entirely. The factories may be forced to shut down for two weeks during the four weeks between races but drivers and team principals are in the midst of the annual silly season spin cycle. Rumours are abound of drivers returning, switching teams, and moving up into F1. Not to mention the renewed feud between Ferrari and Williams. Continue reading

FIA Starts Legal Action Against FOTA
As I predicted earlier today, the FIA will be taking legal action against FOTA over their proposed breakaway series. The FIA claims that the FOTA teams have breached contractual obligations and violated competition laws. They also singled out Ferrari in their legal action for their breach of commercial agreements with the FIA. Continue reading
