Entertainment Link-Off: Needs More Fun

alycia debnam careyIt appears that Batman v Superman is still taking the box office by storm as superhero fans continue to flock to the cinemas for Zack Snyder’s divisive film. Anyway, I’ll just chill at home and catch up on some TV shows. Let’s start off this ELO with Alycia Debnam Carey. I’ll miss seeing her on The 100 but at least she’ll be back on Fear the Walking Dead!

After the jump, The Rock previews the new Baywatch team, DC Comic movies need to be a bit lighter, Suicide Squad’s got a B-team, Alien Day is happening later this month and let’s discuss about who should pay for all the damage in superhero flicks. Continue reading

The Best WrestleMania Hype Videos

wrestlemania-32-logoThis weekend, the WWE will present the 32nd edition of WrestleMania in Dallas, Texas, in front of what they will likely claim is a crowd of over 100,000 people. While the focus will be on the action in the ring, injuries have forced change after change to the card and we’re left with a card and build that makes me kind of glad I couldn’t make it to Dallas for the show of shows. At the very least, we know the WWE will do their usual superb job of last minute salesmanship with epic promo videos to hype the matches.

So to celebrate WrestleMania, we have a collection of some of the best WrestleMania promo hype videos that the WWE has produced.

F1 Power Rankings: Bahrain Grand Prix

Two weeks off and F1 seems on the verge of imploding. The drivers are questioning the decisions of the sport’s governing body and commercial rights holders. The new qualifying format that sent fans home early in Melbourne survives to see another Grand Prix. Bernie continues to chase money with F1 while admitting F1 is broken even though he’s probably the primary cause.

Anyway, among all the controversy over the last couple of weeks, there is a race happening this week. It’s the Bahrain Grand Prix. When Esteban Gutierrez was last there, Pastor Maldonado sent him for a barrel roll. After Australia, hopefully we don’t get any more of that excitement.

Wednesday Link-Off: Media Matters

paige-vanzant-dwts16-01Watching The People v. O.J. Simpson made me think that stories are the most powerful resource that we have. Everyone loves a story. Whether it’s a TV show or just a conversation, we’re all interested in a compelling narrative. That’s what the media feeds us, be it in fiction or the truth played out in front of us in such a way to create an engaging story.

Anyway, it’s Wendesday which means that we have to do the links. Since Dancing with the Stars is back (again), let’s kick off with UFC fighter Paige VanZant.

Gawker might be over $100 million poorer after the Hogan lawsuit but it may not be dead yet. (The Daily Beast)

Hilary Clinton, the candidate that wanted all the debates in the 2008 Democratic Primary, thinks that Bernie Sanders is too mean to debate in 2016. Has she seen what’s happening on the red side? (Mother Jones)

The important part of debates is that they’re effectively free press. However, the press’ parent companies are donating to the Clinton campaign. (Huffington Post)

Chris Evans vs. Jeremy Clarkson: The Infographic

We’re still some months before we see an episode of new old Top Gear and the untitled Clarkson, Hammond and May project but there is still scads of excitement over them. Well, at least, there’s excitement over Amazon throwing millions of dollars at Clarkson, Hammond and May. Given the massive cast at Top Gear led by Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc, a lot of fans are worried about Top Gear reverting to a format that saw it cancelled before Clarkson and Andy Wilman rescued it in the format watched by over 350 million people worldwide. That’s not to say that Top Gear is as good as dead in Evans’s hands.

Our friends at Car Leasing Made Simple made a handy little infographic comparing the incoming host of Top Gear to its outgoing leader. Spoilers: They both have pretty good credentials.

Sunday Link-Off: Wonderful Eastertime

alison-brie-alexa16-07bHappy / a solemn and dignified Easter Sunday to you all. I’m sure it will be spent in church and with family and not at all watching March Madness, miscellaneous pro sports and various eSports. I know that’s what I’m doing… The latter, not the former. I might mix some alcohol in there for good measure too.

Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that we have to do the links. Let’s kick off with Alison Brie.

It’s okay to believe the Ghomeshi victims, hate the verdict and still think it’s alright. However, there is a reason why the victims behaved that way to Ghomeshi that wasn’t explored in court. Here’s an examination here. (The Globe and Mail)

The National Enquirer, as reputable an organization as you’re going to get in the supermarket tabloids, is breaking another affair scandal. This one involves Ted Cruz. (Gawker)

Candidate Trump insists that he didn’t have anything to do with that story just days after threatening to spill the beans about Cruz’s wife. I’m sure he’d be quite understanding how the timing doesn’t look good. (Politico)

Entertainment Link-Off: Beautiful Disaster

amy adams batman v superman premiereSo the hotly anticipated Batman v Superman has finally hit theatres this weekend. The reviews are pouring in and they have been less than kind. While it is beautifully shot, the movie itself was a bit of a mess with an overstuffed third act. Anyway, go have a look for yourself! You’ll spot Amy Adams in the flick as Lois Lane.

After the jump, season 6 of Game of Thrones won’t spoil Winds of Winter that much, Pacific Rim gets the anime treatment, a few more tidbits on Batman v Superman, addressing the fan backlash for The 100, we’re all singing MmmBop wrong and get a quick tease of The Lego Batman Movie! Continue reading

The Cost of Being Batman v. Superman (Infographic)

Yesterday, we took a look at the history of the Batmobile. If you were Bruce Wayne, you would know that buying or developing the latest in gadgetry to become the great detective of Gotham isn’t cheap. In fact, it’s impossibly expensive to be Batman. However, nobody ever asks how much it costs to be Superman. Well, that’s probably because Superman doesn’t need fancy gadgets but just himself to dispense justice. So thanks to this handy infographic, let’s take a look at how much it costs to be both Batman and Superman.

The Evolution of the Batmobile (Infographic)

How many billionaires that you’ve heard of are there that don’t love cars? Most of them like to show off their wealth by buying cars and leaving them in the garage to gather dust. It’s a perfectly cromulent use of the automobile.

Now, if you’re billionaire Bruce Wayne, your car of choice tends to need to be both stylish and functional. More importantly, your car says quite a lot about you. So ahead of the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, our friends over at Select Car Leasing have put together a handy infographic looking at the changes the Batmobile has undergone from the days of Adam West to the modern era of Batfleck.
