Lowdown Radio: April 27, 2010

Tuesday night means it’s time for another episode of The Lowdown. Tonight’s episode picks up as the logical sequel to last week’s. The last episode featured exam tips. This week was tips to pass the summer now that exams are done. After Steve’s failed musical tips, Jackie bails everyone out with a look at the biggest Hollywood blockbusters of the summer. The news talks about strip clubs and police officers having sex on duty (which includes a discussion about types of threesomes). Entertainment features Jackie’s new single of the week and It Came YouTube from a galaxy far, far away. Sports sees the guys hand out their 2009/10 NHL awards. Tonight’s show is a great way to kick off the summer.

On the Extra, Steve expresses his artistic side with more musical summer tips. Jackie talk about more movies in his preview and provides more info and insight. Two more stories make the news. Lowdown Radio: April 13, 2010

We enter our second group of 50 episodes starting tonight. Tonight’s episode is all about keeping you active. The show starts with some exam tips for people that couldn’t care less about how their exams go. Next, Jackie drags Steve to the Campus Rec Centre for a day of working out to get in shape for summer. Naturally, this doesn’t go as planned. After that is the news which includes a story about a man who thinks he’s a vampire and one about a woman who was arrested for having loud sex. Norway takes over Jackie’s single of the week and It Came From YouTube features Bob Costas. After the break is the 2010 Major League Baseball preview. The guys predict the Jays’ fortunes for the year, who will make the playoffs and who will take home the big awards.

On the Extra, the guys give a special welcome to the folks on LionsDenU.com and explains what The Lowdown and The Lowdown Extra are. There are more exam tips and stories to go with those tips. The news has two more stories. Justin Bieber picks up his first Worst of Music award and the guys discuss how badly reaching puberty will be for his career. After the break is all sorts of baseball talk. There’s more banter about everything including a lengthy discussion about Bud Selig’s proposed floating realignment. In all, there is 67 minutes more of Lowdown Extra action this week. There’s over three times the amount of action in this edition of the Extra than they let us have on radio. And, unlike the radio version of the show, the Extra comes to you uncut and uncensored.

Lowdown Radio Classic: April 1, 2008

For this week’s Lowdown classic, we present to you the original Lowdown April Fools’ episode. The episode starts with the boys talking about the show’s new syndication deal in Lauenberg, Germany. That’s followed up with Jackie’s interview with the head coordinator of UWO’s ATTAC Life program. However, that interview is a point of contention between the boys. The news is next with Steve talking about the UWO USC ban on cigarette sales on-campus and The Gazette spoof issue. After the break, it’s the Adventures of Steve and Rich as the UWO USC President-Elect takes the UWO Board of Governors member for a night on the town. Our Steve then takes the opportunity to talk hockey and the Maple Leafs season. After another break is the debut of Steve’s very first album which he follows with a live performance. Well, that was the plan for the show. It didn’t go quite as smoothly as that description makes it sound. You’ll just have to listen to find out how badly things went. And if you thought the censors didn’t like the most recent episode of The Lowdown, the censored version of this episode had some 30 bleeped profanities. However, this download isn’t the censored version. It’s the completely uncensored version with no bleeps, just insanity.

Lowdown Radio #50: March 30, 2010

It’s finally arrived. Tonight was the event two-and-a-half years in the making: The 50th episode of The Lowdown on radio. Tonight’s episode started with Steve’s failed plug for the presenting sponsor of the episode. The show really kicked off with a return to the wild world of politics with Tuesday Night Raw is CPAC. On this edition of Raw is CPAC, Stephen Harper calls out Barack Obama and you’ll never believe what happens next. It Came From YouTube was next with a boxing/heavy metal mashup. After the break is entertainment featuring Jackie’s single of the week and a look at the latest celebrity lawsuits. That’s followed up with the debut of Steve’s third album. Jackie immediately follows that with a special edition of The Worst of Music. The show wraps up with the boys kicking off their Road Trip To End Highway Profanity which goes well for everybody but Steve. As always with our April Fools’ episodes, it’s another instant classic. And, as an added bonus, these downloads are the “too controversial for radio” versions of the show. Yes, about two minutes had to be cut from our original submission to satisfy the censors.

On the Extra, the show starts with a little reminiscing about all the bad luck that’s befallen Steve. After Raw is CPAC, the boys talk about the Hart/McMahon match at WrestleMania XXVI. After the break, a new artist wins Steve’s WoM award for the week. More of Steve’s new album is revealed. In total, there’s 20 minutes more Lowdown action on this week’s edition of Lowdown Extra. Lowdown Radio Classic: October 30, 2007

Before we air the 50th episode of The Lowdown, let’s look at the very first episode of The Lowdown radio show. Compared to episode 50 it was shit but you have to start somewhere. It’s so good that I couldn’t bring myself to listen to the whole episode. The episode starts with a look at the controversial 2007 UWO Board of Governors with candidate Nick Pozhke. Entertainment features the very first edition of Jackie’s single of the week. It was such a last minute addition to the show that we held Jackie’s laptop up to a microphone and played the song off of that. The guys then discuss reuniting pop bands. The show ends with a preview of the 2007-2008 NBA season.

Lowdown Radio: March 16, 2010

Episode #49 of The Lowdown radio show hit the airwaves earlier tonight. As always with the boys, it was a mix of stuff to make you laugh and make you think. The show starts with a look at the Conservatives plan to change the lyrics of Oh Canada and includes a singing of the fully-revised lyrics. Steve does a quick breakdown of the 2010 Federal Budget. In the news, the boys discuss how silicone breast implants that saved a woman’s life and how they can help society as a whole. Jackie taps a free download as his single of the week and Steve does the same for It Came From YouTube. After the break, basketball, hockey, boxing, and wrestling are topics for a game of Toss Up. It’s all that Lowdown fun and insanity you love condensed into an easy to handle 28 minute package.

On the Extra, there’s more talk about the anthem and the budget with most of that focused on trying to figure out what the government was thinking and trying to hide. Two strange animal stories are added to the news. The guys discuss this Justin Bieber guy that seems to have taken over Twitter. Trey Songz wins the coveted Worst of Music prize after Steve discovers that he’s already bestowed the honour on the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 already. After the break, there’s a couple of trademark Steve rants and another Jackie story from Australia. More banter is added to sports that had to be cut from the radio version due to time constraints. In all, it’s an added 38 minutes of Extra content this week. As always, the action comes to you uncut and uncensored.

Lowdown Radio Classic: March 17, 2009

Today’s classic episode brings us back almost a year. While looking for inspiration for the next episode of the show, I looked at what we did 12 months prior. On this episode, the guys shamelessly plug themselves for CHRW awards with an epic highlight package. It almost worked because Steve won an award. The news included a look at the UWO Bus Pass referendum, a Oxford student newspaper spoof issue problem, and Stephen Colbert trying to take over outer space. Entertainment has the typical second season pair of singles, neither of which were terribly good. After an epic commercial break, the boys preview the 2009 Formula One season in sports and wrap the show with a profane version of toss-up.

Lowdown Radio: March 2, 2010

Episode 48 of The Lowdown radio show hit the air tonight. While the 48th episode isn’t necessarily a milestone, the return of Jackie to the host’s chair is. The episode starts with a recap of some of Jackie’s adventures in Australia and a few lessons about the land down under that you might not have known. The news features a ridiculous lawsuit and political correctness. Jackie’s Song of the Week makes a return alongside It Came From YouTube in entertainment. Pop Culture Over/Under also makes its radio debut after a previous appearance on The Lowdown Extra. After the break is the return of the Car Wall. Sports has the annual predictions of where the big names will be after the NHL Trade Deadline. It’s a jampacked 28 minutes of radio action that only The Lowdown could bring you.

Or for fans of proper talk that isn’t cut down to size, there’s The Lowdown Extra. On the Extra, the show gets bogged down off the start with talk about how the time difference in Australia works as Steve tries to get lottery numbers from the future. The lead segment has lots more insider information from the upside-down ground in Australia. Two more stories make The Extra’s news including one about MMA and one that wasn’t a trap. Jason DeRulo sets a benchmark as the first two-time winner of the Worst of Music honour. Two more cars go up on the car wall that you didn’t hear on the radio cut. And the show ends with two more NHL Trade Deadline predictions that couldn’t fit on the radio. In all, it’s a whopping 67 minutes more of Lowdown goodness on this edition of The Lowdown Extra that had to be cut from the radio version of the show. As usual, it comes to you uncut and uncensored.

Lowdown Radio Classic: June 9, 2009

This edition of the classic radio show episode is a look back at the second season finale. It seemed sort of fitting after last week’s music clip driven lead segment. This episode starts with the news that the CRTC are investigating the show after Steve repeatedly used the term “Stable of Hoes” to describe the listeners. They, quickly shift gears into Jackie’s big feature segment: The Soundtrack of Your Life. That’s not to be confused with the band Soundtrack of Our Lives who weren’t featured in this segment. The news and entertainment followed this and includes the song that gave Steve the idea for The Worst of Music. After the break, it’s the final appearance for the season of the What Were They Thinking board. The show wraps up with some big news from the producer who was at the CRTC meeting in Calgary about the show. The second season finale is a great example of why that season is among the greatest that any college radio show has produced.

While this was a pretty good episode, there was a lot of good material that got cut from this episode. As always, we had to cut down to 28 minutes to fit into the time slot. We’re digging up the original audio and plan on repackaging the episode as a special retro Lowdown Extra.

Lowdown Radio: February 16, 2010

The Lowdown was on the air once again for that bi-weekly half-hour of hilarity they call a radio show. For the second time in three episodes, Steve was paired with The Enge for the show. The episode starts with a USC Presidential Election inspired look at the worst of cover music. There’s a lot of Canadian content in that feature including a few music legends and a couple USC Presidential candidates. After that was the news which dealt with sex, drugs, and rock & roll. Entertainment featured a new song (and a new intro) for The Worst of Music and a good cover song for It Came From YouTube. Sports takes you home after the break with a look back at the talk about hockey violence on the previous edition of The Lowdown Extra. The show ends with the third edition of Florida Panthers’ play-by-play announcer Randy Moller’s best goal calls. It’s 28 minutes of that classic Lowdown that you know and love.

On the Extra, it’s 26 minutes more of the action that you love. There’s more talk and more jokes in the worst of cover music segment. The USC presidential recap is extended with behind the scenes info. The news features another story and Steve recalling some of his more memorable moments as a CHRW newscaster. Entertainment has a look at the best Super Bowl ads from this year. Sports has a longer clip from the last Extra and more goal calls by Randy Moller.
