Entertainment Link-Off: S.A.D.

In theatres this weekend, there’s the sequel to the 3D schlock-fest Journey to the Center of the Earth titled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Instead of having Brendan Fraser in the leader, Dwayne Johnson has taken over this time around. There’s also the CIA action thriller Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. And finally, just in time for Singles Awareness Day… I mean Valentine’s Day, there’s the romance drama The Vow starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. Oh what the heck, let’s start this ELO with the Canadian leading lady shall we?

After the jump, a few new movie trailers to check out (including Spidey), Dwayne Johnson wants to be president, watch Superman and Batman discuss social media and new music videos from the cast of New Girl as well as Joseph Vincent and Lights. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: With Great Power…

At the box office this weekend, there’s the found-footage flick about teenagers with superpowers in Chronicle. There’s also a solid ghost movie The Woman in Black starring Harry… I mean Daniel Radcliffe. Finally, there’s the family flick Big Miracle. Nothing particularly special about that one, but at least Kristen Bell is in it!

After the jump, a bit more on Chronicle, a brand new trailer for The Hunger Games, Katy Perry wants to do a 3D concert film and a whole bunch of Youtube videos including a look at the death of Superman, the new Volkswagon Superbowl spot, The Rock playing a ukelele, the definition of “swog” and a new web series from Wong Fu Productions. Entertainment Link-Off: Pushed to the Edge

This weekend marks the release of 3 new major releases at the theatres. There’s Liam Neeson kicking some wolf ass in The Grey. Sam Worthington wants to jump off the ledge of a building. Oh there’s also a new Katherine Heigl movie. Yeah, we all cringed at the thought of that. Anyway, I was considering to start off the ELO with Yvonne Strahovski since last night was the series finale of Chuck. Then I realized I haven’t featured Mekenna Melvin during the show’s run since she appeared as Casey’s daughter Alex. So let’s kick off this week’s ELO with her!

After the jump, Chuck season 5 blooper reel, Pat Sajak was drunk behind the wheel but wasn’t charged for DUI, Oscars suck, new tidbit on The Hobbit, the return of Ferris Bueller and listen to Joseph Gordon-Levitt cover The Beatles! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Less Talk, More Action

It’s all about action this weekend at the box office. You can catch George Lucas’ passion project WWII flick Red Tails starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. There’s also Gina Carano’s acting debut in Haywire. Of course, for those who are fans of seeing Kate Beckinsale with blue contacts and in a tight black corset outfit, Underworld: Awakening is at a theatre near you. The Underworld films have never been great, but somehow Kate Beckinsale does the trick when it comes to drawing me to the theatre, so let’s kick start the ELO with her.

After the jump, a SOPA infographic, a few movie trailers to see, news on some possible movie sequels, Chuck Norris may have ruined The Expendables, Rachel Bilson displays her rapping chops and you should join “The Bark Side”. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: What’s Old is New Again

It’s the second week of the new year and it doesn’t look like there are any significant movie release in theatres this weekend. Maybe a 3D re-release of Beauty and the Beast might be something of interest? Or not. Anyway, let’s kick off this entry with Rachel McAdams. She can still be seen in the latest Sherlock Holmes flick which is in theatres now.

After the jump, Elizabethtown is not a bad movie, Gina Carano kicks Channing Tatum’s ass, Community has another homage in the works, Michael Bay is trying to convince you to get the limited edition Transformers disc set, Wonder Girls are back with a new track and music video and finally, a look at some new year’s resolution fails. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Saturday In The Park

It’s a quiet weekend in Hollywood. The only movies coming out this weekend are either on the small side or just plain awful. The Devil Inside had the biggest Friday box office this weekend but it’s probably not worth watching. The next three weeks make up for that with at least a couple big movies opening each weekend. But the surprisingly good Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol with Paula Patton is still #2 at the box office.

After the jump, another quick look back at 2011, the latest on some upcoming big releases, Barney Stinson actually goes on The Price Is Right and a real-life Ron Burgandy moment. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Year’s End

It’s the holiday season and the new year is near! This will mark the last Entertainment Link-Off of 2011. It’s been a quiet week, so it’ll be fairly short. Fear not folks, lots more to come in 2012. Til then, let’s cap off the year with Rachael Taylor. She can be seen in the alien invasion flick The Darkest Hour. Judging from the word of mouth, the movie isn’t exactly a must-see.

After the jump, even Marvel lawyers don’t support mutants, some minor updates on upcoming films, a look at the top pirated TV shows and movies, and let’s find out what makes a true friend. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: ‘Tis the Season…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Anyway, Merry Christmas to all the Lowdown readers out there. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, enjoy the holidays! Let’s kick off this edition of the Entertainment Link-Off with Noomi Rapace. She’s having a solid week. Sherlock Holmes sequel is currently in theatres and also the highly anticipated trailer for another one of her upcoming films Prometheus was released this week as well.

After the jump, Oh Christmas Troy, trailers for Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises, John Carter and The Hobbit, buddy song for Optimus Prime and the iPhone4S can be very dangerous. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Endings and Beginnings

It’s a whole slew of sequels at the box office this weekend and if the early numbers are any indication, it looks like it’s gonna be a disappointing take for Hollywood. Anyway, earlier this week the series finale of Being Erica just aired, so to mark the end of such a wonderful series, let’s just start off with the show’s leading lady, Erin Karpluk.

After the jump, 10 things you didn’t know about Being Erica, plenty of new movie trailers, an interesting behind the scenes look at The Thing, a montage of The Spielberg Face and Jimmy Kimmel ruins Christmas for a bunch of kids. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Home Is Where the Heart Is

It’s Saturday, so it’s time for another Entertainment Link-Off. This weekend at the box office, it’s a face-off between the star studded/critically bashed New Years Eve or there’s the less critically hated The Sitter starring Jonah Hill. Oh you can also find Ari Graynor in The Sitter, so let’s start off the ELO with her.

After the jump, the new Spider-Man poster, some Battleship related links, save Greendale Community College, reaction to The Dark Knight Rises prologue, a few more movie trailers to check out and ending it all off with the latest music video from Magnetic North. Continue reading
