The second day of The Lowdown’s week-long preview of the 2015 Formula One World Championship continues with some of the recent big news that has occurred. While we’ll be covering the big driver and team moves heading into 2015 in tomorrow’s post, there was plenty more happening in the off-season. Chief among those stories are the on-again, off-again entry of Marussia in the 2015 championship and the fallout from Fernando Alonso’s accident at the Barcelona test.

F1 2015 Season Preview: Rules Changes
We’re less than one week from the 2015 Formula One World Championship. As is often the case, the season kicks off on the streets of Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. The first day of our week-long Formula One season preview kicks things off with a look at the new rules for Formula One for the 2015 season. Unlike last season which saw wholesale rules changes with a new sets of engine, ERS and gearbox rules, this season sees a far smaller set of rules changes. This year, there are tweaks to the engine limit, aerodynamic regulations, sporting regulations and more.
Sunday Link-Off: The News and the Fools Who Follow It
We’re about to kick off a busy few weeks here at Lowdown HQ. This week is Formula One 2015 preview week. Tuesday’s rules change post is written. Wednesday’s drivers and teams preview is in progress. The predictions and power rankings posts will be fairly straight-forward. However, Monday’s news update hasn’t been started yet. Hopefully I get all that done quickly so I can move onto the next week’s Hottest Canadian bracket. There’s lots of work to be done around the blog over the next couple of weeks.
Anyway, it’s Sunday which means that it’s time for us to do the links. After a couple straight linkdumps with Alison Brie (not that there’s anything wrong with that), let’s kick things off with Jessica Alba.
About one in six Canadians think they’re better off now than this time last year. One-third of Canadians think they’re worse off. Sounds like Harper’s Canada is working out well for all of us. (Press Progress)
A scandal is brewing in Britain but won’t get the coverage over here that it should get. An investigation has turned up what is being called a “VIP pedophile ring” in the British government under Thatcher. (The Daily Beast)
Republican Washington State Senator Jim Honeyford says that poor and “coloured” people are more likely to commit crimes. And this is a party that thinks they’re fit to lead a whole country. (The Stranger)
Entertainment Link-Off:
I’m back this week now that I got time to sit down in front of the computer once again. Huge thanks to Steve for covering for me last week as I was inundated with work. Anyway, it’s time for another ELO as it’s Saturday once again! Community is coming back really soon, so why not get another dose of Alison Brie!
After the jump, District 10 ain’t happening anytime soon, Expendables is coming to a TV near you, movies make more money in China, analyzing the difficulties to make a movie and Bob Barker renews his rivalry with Adam Sandler. Continue reading
The Best of /r/Boop
It’s Friday. It’s been a very long and very cold week. So I think that it’s time that we do another amazing edition of the Best of the Interweb. You’ve probably figured out that I took to Reddit like a fish to water when moved over there from primarily using Google Reader. Surprisingly, my favourite subreddits aren’t Games or News or Politics but Aww and Boop.
So for today’s Best of the Interweb, it’s ten of the best GIFs from /r/boop.
The World’s Richest Superheroes (Infographic)
For as many great superheroes there are with fantastic powers like your Superman, Wonder Woman, Thor, The Hulk and so on, there are many more superheroes that aren’t endowed with superpowers to save the Earth. While heroes like Batman and Iron Man might dominate on the silver screen, they don’t have their own superpowers. Both superheroes and supervillains have used their money to become among the most powerful people in the world.
So today, we have a handy little infographic to take us through the finances of some of the most powerful men in the Marvel and DC universes.
Wednesday Link-Off: In Like a Lion
So the old saying goes that if March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb. Well, last evening, I snowblowed about eight inches of snow. I don’t know how much fell overnight or how much I shoveled out of the end of the driveway this morning because I’m writing this Tuesday night. So I’m hoping the old adage holds true because I’ve had enough of winter at this point.
Anyway, it’s Wednesday which means that it’s time for us to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Alison Brie from her GQ Mexico shoot.
For the second time, Fox News has apologized for Bill O’Reilly has apologized for lying about what he witnessed as a reporter. He’s still on air though. (The Guardian)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a speech to a joint session of the US Congress yesterday. Israel is likely to be a hot topic in the upcoming Presidential election. So that’s why Rand Paul is backtracking on wanting to cut foreign aid to Israel. (BuzzFeed)
Fails of the Week
Every so often, we take a look at the most epic fails from the week that was in the Fails of the Week. This week, we have five pictures and videos that we think are the most epic fails of the week.
Formula One: 2015 2nd Barcelona Test Recap
With less than two weeks to go before the first Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne, the second test at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona was the final chance that the teams got to get ready for the 2015 season.
For some teams, it was more of the same. Mercedes was at the front of the pack while McLaren struggled to get some consistent running in. Other teams found some much-needed form. Williams found some speed in the final test of the pre-season and Force India finally ran their 2015 car with as much mileage in three days as McLaren had in three weeks.
Sunday Link-Off: 14 Seconds of Links
Okay, this isn’t a 14-second post but who knows? Maybe you’ll just skip to the end where we have the whole damn Ronda Rousey / Cat Zingano fight to watch in a GIF. I missed the fight and was worrying about catching a video this morning but I didn’t expect it to be that easy to watch the fight. Joe Rogan’s first post-fight question to Cat was longer than the damn fight.
Anyway, it’s time for the links. It’s only appropriate to start this post with Ronda Rousey.
Until this week, you may not have known that Prince Edward Island was looking into launching online gambling. Then the plan went so wrong that Robyn Doolittle is doing a report on it. (The Globe and Mail)
Bill O’Reilly has gotten off comparatively lightly for lying when compared to others. Maybe that’s because it seems to be a force of habit. (Daily Dot)
Prime Minister Harper said that a Muslim woman should have been forced to remove her niqab when taking the Canadian citizenship oath. Not everyone is happy with that remark. (CBC News)
