The Lowdown Radio: June 23, 2009

It’s another slightly old episode of The Lowdown radio show. This episode is the first of the three “Best of” episodes of The Lowdown from Season 2. The theme of this episode is cars. In this show, Steve and Jackie bust out the Car Wall to give guys advice on what cars are cool enough to pick up women. And Steve bookends the show by interviewing Pinks: All Out host Rich Christensen.

The Lowdown Radio: July 7th, 2009

It’s not old enough to be a classic but here is an older episode of The Lowdown radio show that airs in London, Ontario. This episode is one of the three Best Of episodes of The Lowdown that we run every year. On tonight’s episode, Steve and Jackie examine what politics would be like if it were more like professional wrestling. Then, Steve hijacks Jackie’s attempt to give out exam tips by trying to find the best energy drink to pull an all-nighter. When Jackie regains control, he drags Steve around to find the best study spots on campus. Steve fails to interview Paul Martin and he still thinks he was still calling the hockey player. The show is capped of with classic Randy Moller goal calls and Steve’s attempts at Western Mustang-ized goal calls. It’s some of the best segments from Season 2 of The Lowdown in one handy episode.

The Lowdown Radio – August 18th, 2009

The Lowdown was on-air tonight with the second “Previously Enjoyed” episode of 2009. This episode originally aired on January 6, 2009. That was our first episode of 2009. On tonight’s show, Steve and The Enge review Rock Band 2. Then Steve and Jackie recap the best stories of 2008 while making ridiculous predictions for 2009. They cap off the night by announcing the winners of The Lowdown Awards including the Freedom of Speech Award. Expect a lot of stockbroker bashing.

Lowdown Radio Classic – November 25, 2008

The other day, I mentioned the Elbow song Grounds for Divorce on my Twitter. That inspired me to post this classic episode of The Lowdown radio show. This episode uses that song as a sort of theme song for our in-depth test of three energy drinks to help you study. This episode also happens to be one of my favourites and is on my Top 5 list of all-time great episodes of The Lowdown.

On this episode, I examine the UWO sales pitch at Fall Preview Day. We try to fix Queen’s Homecoming. Then I commandeer Jackie’s attempt to give real exam tips by trying to figure out which energy drink is best for pulling all-nighters. When Jackie regains control, he drags me along to find good study spots on campus. It’s a classic half-hour of fun and insanity that only The Lowdown can bring you.

August 4th Episode of The Lowdown

The Lowdown was on-air tonight with a repeat episode of the show. This episode, billed under the label “Previously Enjoyed”, originally aired on February 3, 2009. That was our special Valentine’s Day edition of the show. On tonight’s episode, Steve and Jackie try out pickup lines in a bar, then they come up with a list of love songs that aren’t really love songs but kind of are, they talk about celebrity crushes, Steve goes to the Winter Homecoming hockey game, and Jackie ends the night by trying to teach folks how to cook only to be sabotaged by Steve.

Vaughn Martin Signs With San Diego

Former UWO Mustang defensive lineman Vaughn Martin has signed a contract with the San Diego Chargers. While nothing has been confirmed officially, the contract is believed to be a four-year deal with the first two year guaranteed. Martin is expected to get a $500,000 signing bonus in keeping with the standard for fourth round draft picks. Money hasn’t been confirmed either but is expected to be in the range of $2.2M to $2.5M. However, we can confirm Martin’s rating in Madden 10. He has an overall rating of 54.

While the UWO Students’ Council is throwing fees at Mustang Athletics, students at NCAA colleges in the USA aren’t so willing to throw cash on to a fire. (New York Times) See UWO, this is what happens when you elect a president who would rather be homecoming queen than president.

If you’ve been keeping up with the Phoenix Coyotes soap opera, you know that The Great One will be out over $9 million if the team isn’t sold for enough money. Turns out that there are a lot of people that could be short money including the Boy Scouts. (Globe and Mail)

Speaking of hockey, what happens to the hats that are thrown to celebrate a hat trick. (Puck Daddy) True story: I was at a Soo Greyhounds game where a Soo player got a hat trick. One guy threw his hat on the ice. A linesman picked up the hat and gave it to a game staff member who gave it back to the guy that threw it.
