Worst of Music Retrospective: United States of Pop 2015

I don’t think that we’ve done a Worst of Music post since this time last year. It’s not that music has gotten any better. I’m just avoiding any of the hits stations as much as possible. If you go off the Billboard path, you can find some pretty good music. This year, I’ve discovered Deafheaven and Sleater Kinney so it’s not like music is all terrible. Just mostly terrible.

Since most of the internet has gone into year-in-review mode, I thought that we’d do our usual retrospective of the worst music of 2015. Worst of Music Retrospective: United States of Pop 2014

While this year was a quiet one for Worst of Music posts on the blog (the only one was Avril Lavigne’s Hello Kitty), that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a whole pile of bad music this year.

This year’s is a pretty accurate representation of the year in music. It has a fast tempo, a driving beat, the lyrics are indecipherable and it’s generally painful to listen to. That’s not a shining endorsement of the song but it does sum up 2011 in music perfectly. Of the 25 songs the DJ Earworm uses, 15 are winners of the Worst of Music award. Continue reading

DJ Earworm’s United State of Pop 2010

Every year, DJ Earworm mashes up Billboard’s top 25 songs of the year into one megamix. This matchup is so popular that its release inevitably leads to his site crashing from the heavy traffic. And that’s why we have it here. This year’s United State of Pop may be subtitled “Don’t Stop The Pop” but it’s definitely heavy with hip hop and dance music. That would explain why I count 12 Worst of Music winning songs among the 25 mashed up into this. Hit the jump for the song and a listing of the songs mashed up into it. Continue reading
