Lowdown Radio Preview: December 22, 2009

In exactly 48 hours until the final episode of The Lowdown of 2009. It’s our annual Christmas special episode. This year it’s our choices for the weirdest and wackiest of Christmas music. Unlike the episode of The Lowdown Extra that we posted last week, this episode is packed with Canadian content for a time of year that seems like a typical Canadian postcard. So tune in with the family and sing along… Or at least have a laugh at some of the ridiculous songs that we dug up.

The Lowdown Extra: December 17, 2009

Tonight’s special episode of The Lowdown Extra was originally going to be the Lowdown Christmas Special. It was rejected because there wasn’t enough Canadian content but that doesn’t mean that we can’t run it online. This special online exclusive features our choices for the weirdest Christmas music out there. It’s 32 minutes and eight songs of head-scratching Christmas music and Lowdown insanity. The Lowdown Radio: December 8, 2009

Christmas is still a couple of weeks away but the gang at Lowdown HQ have all your holiday shopping tips wrapped up for you in one easy to handle package. The show starts with Steve and Jackie reviewing DJ Hero and comparing Band Hero to Lego Rock Band. Then they talk about a few random trinkets for last minute shoppers. In an out of character moment, the gang gives their top environmentally-friendly shopping tips. The news includes the formula for the perfect Christmas gift and the benefits of drinking booze. Entertainment has a single from a Dutch artist and the return of Christopher Walken. After the commercial, Steve and Jackie wheel the Car Wall out of storage to look at how cool some new cars are. The show wraps up with sports where the guys pick their Olympic hockey rosters and lines.

On the Extra, there’s additional talk about DJ Hero, Band Hero, and Lego Rock Band. Somehow they worked a lengthy discussion about Heidi Klum in there as well as throughout the show.  They also pick out a couple more trinkets worth buying. The news features new stories about aliens from outer space and a Santa getting fired. There’s a bonus It Came From YouTube as well as Ke$ha being awarded the worst of music. Another car gets added to the car wall and more players get nominated for Olympic hockey team consideration. There’s an additional 54 minutes on this edition of The Lowdown Extra to make it 1:22:37 in length. That makes it the longest podcast in Lowdown and CHRW history by 13 minutes. It’s the annual Christmas gift buying guide where the guys help you figure out what’s hot and what’s not this year and what you can get that special someone. The show starts with Steve and Jackie reviewing DJ Hero and comparing Band Hero to Lego Rock Band. They spiral out to a few random trinkets to pickup. In an unusual moment, the guys give their top environmentally-friendly shopping tips. The news includes the formula for the perfect Christmas gift. Entertainment has a single from a Dutch artist and the return of Christopher Walken. After the commercial, Steve and Jackie wheel the Car Wall out of storage to look at how cool some new cars are. The show wraps up with sports where the guys pick their Olympic hockey rosters and lines. It’s tonnes of stuff crammed into a packed half-hour of Lowdown insanity.

Lowdown Radio Classic: December 11, 2007

Before we do this year’s Fortnight Before Christmas Gift Buying Special, we bring you the original Fortnight Before Christmas Special. On this episode, Steve tries to figure out what teenagers want for Christmas while Jackie tries to find out what to buy for university students. After an attempt to figure out what to get your girlfriends, the guys look at random Christmas gifts. The car wall makes its first appearance on the show and the guys talk about the Audi R8, Ferrari 599, Subaru Impreza, Pontiac Solstice, and BMW 3-Series. Entertainment has two new singles picked out by Jackie and his review of Hitman. Sports sees the premiere of Fortune Tellers with Jackie as the resident expert.

The Lowdown Radio: November 24, 2009

It’s two days until American Thanksgiving but you had something to be thankful a little early this year. The latest episode of The Lowdown had something for everyone. The show starts with Steve and Jackie talking about the Canadian Swine Flu vaccination program. Steve investigates the program in depth when he goes to a vaccination clinic to get a shot. In the news, the guys talk about the UWO police brutality lawsuit and the WWII veteran who fought off an attempted armed robber. Entertainment features Jackie’s new single and Alex Trebek comes from YouTube. Sports includes the NHL quarter-year awards complete with a new sports game called Too Soon.

Steve goes in depth on this when he goes to a vaccination clinic to get a shot. Lowdown Radio Classic: November 11, 2008

For this vintage episode of The Lowdown, we turn back the clocks back one year. It combines some of the great staples of The Lowdown in one show. This episode came one week after Barack Obama was elected President of the United States so this was the first episode in the new era of hope. On this episode, Steve attempts to get an interview with President-elect Barack Obama. The boys mock the would-be Vice President Sarah Palin by playing her infamous radio interview with Montreal comedians/DJs The Masked Avengers. The news, as seems to be the usual, is all stories of love gone wrong. Entertainment starts with the guys’ singles of the week followed by reviews of Paschendale and Zack & Miri Make A Porno. After the commercial was the debut of the What Were They Thinking board. Sports looks at the new theme songs for NHL coverage on CBC and TSN and the show wraps up with quick hit sports stories. The boys are on top of their games in this episode, turning a slow week into an amazing episode.

The Lowdown Radio: November 10, 2009

Tonight’s episode of The Lowdown didn’t have one of the trademark feature segments but it’s still one of the best this season. The show kicked off with Jackie and Steve breaking down some of the top new TV shows launched this season. On the news, the guys talk strip hockey, the origins of kissing, and Orwell’s 1984. In entertainment, Jackie goes acoustic for his single of the week. Meanwhile, It Came From YouTube features the acapella stylings of Christopher Walken. The sports game of the week is Toss Up which covers sports, politics, entertainment and all points in between.

Lowdown Radio Preview: November 10, 2009

In just 48 hours, The Lowdown radio show hits the airwaves with another spectacular episode. The show starts with Jackie and Steve dissecting the new crop of TV shows to see which ones are worth watching and which should be banished to an early demise. In the news, the guys talk about strip hockey and love gone wrong. Entertainment features Jackie’s favourite (allegedly) new single and the legendary Christopher Walken comes from YouTube. The sports game of the week is Toss Up and the guys delve into topics from the usual sports to politics and entertainment. It’s a great half hour of fun and excitement as only The Lowdown can bring.
