Entertainment Link-Off: The Sky is Falling

amy adams man of steelTwo big films to check out this weekend. First there’s the hilarious end of the world comedy This is the End featuring Seth Rogen and his pals. On the other end is Zack Snyder’s reboot of Superman in Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill. You can also catch Amy Adams in the film as Lois Lane.

After the jump, World War Z wants your money, trailers galore, some Game of Thrones stuff, Joss Whedon reveals his five favourite flicks, Olivia Munn’s boobs magically disappeared, the return of Dick Casablancas and The Lonely Island “Go Kindergarten”.  Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Learning Curve

amy adams elleI’m back! No shitty movie weekend to off-load to Steve, so I suppose it is appropriate that I take over the ELO once again. Sure there’s the awful looking film The Internship, which was hoping to relight that chemistry Vince Vaughan and Owen Wilson had from Wedding Crashers. On the other hand, perhaps you can catch Joss Whedon channel his inner Shakespeare with Much Ado About Nothing. That one is getting rave reviews all across the board. To kick off this ELO though, I’m going to jump ahead a little bit and start off with the leading lady from Man of Steel. Here’s the always lovely Amy Adams.

After the jump, Google can predict how much a movie is going to make, first look at a new character in The Hobbit, M. Night Shyamalan wrote a teen movie that we all didn’t hate, Dan Harmon hopes to marathon Community season 4 this weekend and let The Lonely Island and Alanis Morissette teach you something about semicolons (or not).  Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Aftermath

olivia-munn-esquire13-01Don’t adjust the dial. I’ve drawn in for Jackie this week. Normal service will resume next week. My problem is that Jackie has this uncanny ability to off-load the ELO to me when the weekend movie releases are terrible. This week, we have the Smith family sci-fi movie After Earth and the magic crime movie Now You See Me. Well, at least the latter looks like it could be fun. After Earth looks shit. Catch up on old movies or save up for Man of Steel and read a book this weekend.

Rather than promote anything out this week, let’s start off with Olivia Munn. The Newsroom is back soon and you really should watch it. As much as some people hate it, I’ve seen a real change in the importance of fact checking and how news is reported since the show started airing.

Entertainment Link-Off: All Roads Lead To This

gal gadotThis weekend at the theatres is a face-off between two big franchises. On one end is the return of the Wolfpack in The Hangover Part III. On the other is the actioner Fast and Furious 6. Funny enough, despite having six installments in the bag, the Fast and Furious gang still got some fuel in the tank while the Wolfpack is left behind sniffing the fumes. Anyway, kicking off this entry is one of the ladies from the FF flick, Gal Gadot.

After the jump, some Fast and Furious related news items, another look at The World’s End, Arrested Development relied heavily on the green screen, a Fresh Prince reunion and Superman delivers the ultimate ball busting move. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Into Darkness

alice eveThis weekend marks the release of Star Trek Into Darkness. Given that The Great Gatsby has not been able top Iron Man, perhaps Captain Kirk and crew can. Anyway, kicking off the latest ELO is a new addition to the Enterprise crew, Alice Eve.

After the jump, some Kickstarter related stuff, Avengers stuff, Modern Family gets a cable network makeover, a few movie trailers to see and JJ Abrams takes some suggestions for the next Star Wars movie. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Young and Beautiful

jordana brewster michelle rodriguez fast furious 6 premiereApparently it’s style over substance in the latest adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio. That’s rather unfortunate to hear but if you’ve always been a fan of Baz Luhrmann’s style, it might be worth the admission ticket. Otherwise there’s not much out there as alternative programming… unless you’re in Australia because Star Trek into Darkness is out! Anyway, kicking off this Entertainment Link-Off is Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez from the world premiere for Fast and Furious 6.

After the jump, analyzing the difference between The Great Gatsby film with the original novel, check out movie posters with their original working titles, The World’s End trailer premieres, Community returns and watch old Spock take on the new Spock in The Challenge. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: You Won’t See Me Coming!

rebecca hallWell there is little competition in theatres this weekend as Iron Man 3 is finally released in North America. To kick off the Entertainment Link-Off this week, I am not going to start off with Gwyneth Paltrow, who just happened to be named “most beautiful” by People’s magazine. Instead, I’ll go with the other leading lady Rebecca Hall.

After the jump, Damon Lindelof talks about the struggles of World War Z, threequels galore, special Iron Man 3 China edition isn’t so special after all, the world’s smallest movie premieres, watch a disturbing sci-fi short film, a few new movie trailers to check out and JJ Abrams chats with Simon Pegg about Star Wars. How Much Does Yoda’s Hut Cost? (Infographic)

It’s been a while since we’ve done an infographic post so let’s put one together now. Have you ever wanted to live like Yoda? I don’t mean being a force-using alien who swings a mean lightsaber. I mean in a mud hut next to a swamp. Well, someone has actually priced out the cost of building Yoda’s hut.

Entertainment Link-Off: Pain and Gain

megan fox sharper image 1It’s testosterone galore at the theatres this weekend with Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain hitting the screens. Meanwhile over in Australia, you get to check out Iron Man 3 instead! Not a bad weekend at all. Anyway, don’t really know who to start off this week’s ELO with, so here’s one of Michael Bay’s former favourite, Megan Fox.

After the jump, the future of Iron Man is up in the air, first look at Thor: The Dark World, Kickstarter has another big project, an interesting America’s Got Talent audition gone wrong and watch Patton Oswalt channel his inner Penguin. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Never Gets Old

sarah shahiNothing too noteworthy out this weekend, so I’m not too sure what to lead off with. Well, the folks here in Aussieland finally get a look at Sly’s latest Bullet to the Head, so let’s start off with Sarah Shahi, who plays his daughter in the flick.

After the jump, Michael Bay and Guillermo del Toro not getting along, Transformers is looking for more Chinese actors, some Pitch Perfect stuff, Patton Oswalt shares his vision of Star Wars, the cast of This is the End celebrates 4/20 with you, Harrison Ford still won’t answer your Star Wars questions and a taste of K-pop that has nothing to do with Psy.
