After a four-goal victory in game three, the Montreal Canadiens were looking to carry the momentum into an unusual afternoon game on Saturday. Yesterday, the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games Organizing Committee unveiled the official mascots for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. On the left of the photo is Wenlock, the Olympic mascot. On the right is Mandeville, the Paralympic mascot. The obvious dick jokes aside, I’m not sure that there’s been a dumber set of mascots ever devised. Really, they look like a pair of one-eyed monsters that were rejects from a Doctor Who story. So how ridiculous have past mascots been? After a week’s delay, it’s time for the latest edition of The Lowdown Extra. The latest uncut and uncensored edition of The Lowdown is the full edition of our most recent episode. The episode starts with Jackie creating a Facebook page for the show and blog. While he was at it, he made one for Steve which caused all hell to break loose. The problems with Steve’s Facebook profile prompted Jackie to take a look at the best prank calls of all-time. (If you listen to the show, it’ll make sense). The news looks at sex, drug, and… Aliens? As strange as it sounds, the gang talks about extraterrestrials and the apocalypse. Entertainment features Tyler Hilton as Jackie’s single of the week, The Wheel Wells from YouTube, and B.o.B. winning the Worst of Music (which has a shitty new intro). Jackie tops entertainment with his exclusive review of Iron Man 2. After the break, the boys attempt to look at the 2010 UEFA Champions League finals. After largely failing at that, they go back to YouTube with some funny hockey clips including a Jaroslav Halak song and more of Randy Moller’s goal calls.
In all, it’s 63 minutes of Lowdown action. It’s the longest Lowdown ever. As always, it comes to you uncut and uncensored.
Four teams remain in the chase for Lord Stanley’s Cup. They’re each only eight wins away from lifting the Stanley Cup and being crown champions of the National Hockey League. Three of the teams weren’t expected to make it this far. Two teams are from the original six. One is a perennial choker. One has revolving door goaltenders. The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel of the Formula One season. It’s a race steeped in history that has seen the great drivers take the checkered flag. A win at Monaco will make your reputation as much as a World Drivers’ Championship would. That just adds to the lore that is the race on the streets of Monte Carlo. And now, Mark Webber can add his name to the list of heroes that have won in Monaco as he dominated with his second consecutive lights-to-flag victory. Two rounds of playoff action are in the books and history has been made. While everything in the Western Conference went according to plan, the Eastern Conference has seen history made repeatedly. As a result, the first vs. second seed matchup in the West is the complete opposite of the East where the seventh and eighth seed faceoff. Two teams are just four wins away from being able to raise a banner to the rafters while one team is just eight wins away from raising Lord Stanley’s Cup.
