Twenty years ago, the Monaco Grand Prix featured a downpour, changing conditions and only three cars running at the end of the two-hour time limit. Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix looked like it could go the same way but the difference was that 15 cars finished.Ā A series of strange moments throughout the race saw Lewis Hamilton luck his way into his first win of the 2016 World Championship.

F1 Power Rankings: Monaco Grand Prix
It’s finally time for Formula One to have its biggest race of the year on the biggestĀ day for motorsports of the year. Before we can watch the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600, we must start the day with the Monaco Grand Prix. All eyes will be on Mercedes as theyĀ try to recover from the debacle in Barcelona because if they pull that trick here,Ā most of the field will crash out with them.

I hope that everyone is geared up for this Sunday. It’s the annual Memorial Day 1,250. From 8:00 AM EDT through to sometime around 11:00 PM EDT, there’s motorsport of some sort on TV .Ā While there’s the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600, the day kicks off with the Monaco Grand Prix.
Last year, it was Nico Rosberg who came out on top of the battle of Monte Carlo. This year, he heads into the race with momentum after scoring his first win of the season. Can he make it two in a row?
F1 Monaco Grand Prix: Forza Marussia!
Let’s get this out of the way first: Nico Rosberg won the race for Mercedes in an absolutely dominant fashion. However, that wasn’t the real story of the race. The true hero of the Monaco Grand Prix was Jules Bianchi who kept his nose clean through the traffic, crashes and safety cars to finish 9th and score his and Marussia’s firstĀ ever points.

You know, I almost forgot the Power Rankings again. ForĀ a self-admitted massive Formula One fan, I don’t do much to prove it. Then again, ifĀ TSN didn’t leave promotion of Formula One races to in-program promos onĀ NBC SportsĀ NetworkĀ simulcasts, maybe Canadians would remember when F1 races are!
Anyway, it’s Monaco time. Monaco is my second-favourite race of the year. Obviously, Canada is my favourite race because it’s the best race of the year. But Monaco starts off the best day inĀ motorsports. From 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM EDT, there’s a solid wall of racing action and coverage. This isĀ Motorsports Christmas. I love Memorial Day and I’m not even American.
F1 Monaco GP: To Finish 1st, First You Must Win The Pole
The Monaco Grand Prix is absolutely unparalleled in motorsport for glamour and pageantry. Unfortunately, Monaco is almost unparalleled in terms of its ability to turn Formula One into a parade. If it wasn’t for a pair of safety cars and a red flag, this year’s edition of the race would have also been a parade. This year, it was Nico Rosberg who picked up the win in this season’s most prestigious race but is certainly wasn’t without a tonne of controversy for his Mercedes team.

Sunday is the single greatest day of the year to be a racing fan. If you live in the Eastern Time Zone of North America, you can get up at 8:00 AM for the Monaco Grand Prix, fill your afternoon with the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race and finish with the Coca-Cola 600. It’s almost 15 straight hours of racing action.
It all starts with the most prestigious race in the world. The Monaco Grand Prix is the crown jewel of the top motorsports series in the world. The only downside is that passing is virtually impossible. As such, qualifying is going to be vitally important to success this weekend.
F1 Monaco GP: Six For Six
After five different winners from the first five races of the 2012 Formula One World Championship, it was only fitting that the season started with a six different winner to start the season. This time, it was Mark Webber who picked up his first win of the season while Red Bull took their second checkered flag of the season. For Webber, it was also his second win at the Monaco Grand Prix. F1 Power Rankings: Monaco Grand Prix
After five races, we’ve seen five winners from five different teams. That might just be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how unpredictable this season has been so far. After being one of the worst cars on the grid last season, Williams and Pastor Maldonado won the Spanish Grand Prix. Despite having a car that’s beenĀ referred to as a big red dog, Fernando Alonso is tied for the World Drivers’ Championship lead. Only two drivers (Alonso and Lewis Hamilton) have scored points in every race so far. It looks like anything can happen in F1 this year. Continue reading
F1 Power Rankings: Monaco Grand Prix
We’re only six races into the season and still six months from the season finale but we’ve reached the biggest race of the 2011 Formula One World Championship. The Monaco Grand Prix is the most prestigious race on the calendar and one that every driver wants to win. Four of the top five drivers in this year’s championship have won on the streets of the principality. The one man who hasn’t is the man who has dominated 2011 so far. Continue reading
