Lowdown BlogCast: June 26, 2012

After some six months off, The Lowdown podcast is back with another episode. Today’s episode of the show came on the heals of some big news which Steve and Jackie dissected. The show starts with a discussion and rant about Mass Effect 3 and the Extended Cut ending which was announced the day before taping and released earlier today. That transitions to a discussion of the lack of originality in the movie industry with an increase in the number of reboots and video game movies. Courting controversy, Steve discusses Jerry Sandusky and Chris Brown in the same breath and explains why arguing who is worse is missing the point. Discussion then turns to the NHL draft, the upcoming free agent non-frenzy and superstars on the trading block. The show ends with the boys talking about Fox’s MasterChef and where it’s gone wrong this season.

In total, this return of the podcast chimes in at almost two hours long.

Not News of the Week

It’s time for all the news that’s not fit for print. It’s time for the Not News of the Week.

It may have become popular thanks to a joke on Seinfeld but it turns out that it’s true. A coroner’s inquest in Australia has confirmed that a dingo actually did eat a woman’s baby. An Aussie woman’s 9-week-old daughter went missing some 32 years ago and she was convicted of murder. The conviction was overturned and the woman maintained that a dingo ran off with her baby. Last week, a coroner ruled that the dingo explanation is the cause of the baby’s death. So Robert Downey Jr. was right in Tropic Thunder. It actually happened. Continue reading →

It’s Here! Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Launches Now

It’s 5:00 AM EDT at Lowdown HQ. So why do I have a post going live right now? Because, per Mass Effect 3 producer Mike Gamble, XBox 360 users are able to flip on their systems and download the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC right now. Sorry, PS3 and PC players (like me). F1 European GP: Hometown Hero

For the first time this season, we have a repeat winner. It was only appropriate that the driver who has gotten the most out of his equipment this season and was racing in a home race was the first driver to win two races this year as Fernando Alonso picked up the surprise win. For a race on the streets of Valencia, this race was full of drama with passing and crashing a regular occurrence. The race will also be remembered for Michael Schumacher scoring the first podium of his comeback as he scored a hard-fought third place finish. Continue reading →

BioWare Officially Announces Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut

Seemingly out of nowhere, BioWare officially announced the upcoming release of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC which will be available for download on June 26th (this coming Tuesday). This is the much-anticipated updated ending to ME3 announced in April after fans complained about the lack of closure and plot holes contained in the ending of Mass Effect 3 that shipped with on the game disc.

As is my annual tradition here on the blog, I make completely outlandish predictions as to what will happen at the NHL Entry Draft in my role as the blog’s NHL Outsider. F1 Power Rankings: European Grand Prix

Over a three race stretch, the 2012 Formula One World Championship went from the historic street circuit in Monaco to the exciting and unpredictable street circuit in Montreal to the dreadfully boring streets of Valencia for the European Grand Prix. The streets around Valencia’s harbour and America’s Cup port were probably selected to mimic the harbour atmosphere of Monaco. Unfortunately, Monaco is a challenging and historic track. Valencia is boring enough to help even the worst insomniac. Perhaps the combination of Pirelli tyres and DRS could save this race. Continue reading →
