It’s time to once again take a look back at the past month here on the blog with Lowdown Monthly. Considering the amount of content we’ve pushed out over the last 30 days, I thought now would be a good time to bring it back. So here’s our look back at our favourite and the most popular posts of June. Continue reading

Lowdown BlogCast: June 26, 2012
After some six months off, The Lowdown podcast is back with another episode. Today’s episode of the show came on the heals of some big news which Steve and Jackie dissected. The show starts with a discussion and rant about Mass Effect 3 and the Extended Cut ending which was announced the day before taping and released earlier today. That transitions to a discussion of the lack of originality in the movie industry with an increase in the number of reboots and video game movies. Courting controversy, Steve discusses Jerry Sandusky and Chris Brown in the same breath and explains why arguing who is worse is missing the point. Discussion then turns to the NHL draft, the upcoming free agent non-frenzy and superstars on the trading block. The show ends with the boys talking about Fox’s MasterChef and where it’s gone wrong this season.
In total, this return of the podcast chimes in at almost two hours long.

It’s Here! Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Launches Now
It’s 5:00 AM EDT at Lowdown HQ. So why do I have a post going live right now? Because, per Mass Effect 3 producer Mike Gamble, XBox 360 users are able to flip on their systems and download the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC right now. Sorry, PS3 and PC players (like me). The 360 gets first crack while the rest of us have to wait. Continue reading
Before Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut: The Indoctrination Theory – A Documentary Part 2
In our examination of the controversy surrounding the release and ending of Mass Effect 3, we included a brief examination of the Indoctrination Theory and included the Indoctrination Theory documentary. Ahead of tomorrow’s release of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC, Julian Kluk of CleverNoob.com is back with a second part to his epic examination of Mass Effect 3’s ending with The Indoctrination Theory – A Documentary Part 2. BioWare Officially Announces Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut
Seemingly out of nowhere, BioWare officially announced the upcoming release of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC which will be available for download on June 26th (this coming Tuesday). This is the much-anticipated updated ending to ME3 announced in April after fans complained about the lack of closure and plot holes contained in the ending of Mass Effect 3 that shipped with on the game disc.
After the jump, we have all of the official details from BioWare and our analysis. Continue reading

The Mass Effect 3 Controversy: What Went Wrong And Why It’s Not Entitlement
Last Friday, I posted my spoiler-free review of Mass Effect 3. By going spoiler-free, I didn’t discuss many of the more controversial moments of ME3 as that would involve spoiling most of the game to give any sort of context. While many gamer complaints about the game are written-off by larger gaming media outlets as “gamer entitlement” or gamers looking for a “happy ending,” many gamers have valid complaints about what was promised by BioWare and what they actually shipped in March.
After the jump, I take a look at some of the controversial moments in ME3 ahead of today’s EA press conference at E3. Continue reading
Video Game Review: Mass Effect 3 (or This Is It, Isn’t It)
A couple of months behind the rest of the world, I finally managed to finish playing Mass Effect 3. Being late to the party meant that I got to hear all the controversy over the ending and first day DLC. BioWare had a near impossible effort to make everyone happy with the concluding part to such a great trilogy. Were they able to pull it off or were the public right that EA is the worst company in America? Continue reading
Wednesday Link-Off: #3
I should be playing Mass Effect 3 right now but my hard drive had to suffer a catastrophic failure in January and cost me two (and a half) saved characters. But with ME3 out yesterday, it’s only fitting to lead-off with Yvonne Strahovski.
We all know that Rush Limbaugh is a moronic, misogynistic blowhard whose views lower the intelligence of everyone that hears them. Fortunately, after his latest tirade and thanks to the power of social media, Rush’s advertisers are leaving in droves. (Think Progress)
Speaking of advertising, since the NBA is expecting over two-thirds of teams to lose money this season, they’re looking at selling ads on jerseys. (Sporting News)
Mass Effect 3 is out! Let me repeat that to reflect my excitement: MASS EFFECT THREE!!!!!1!!3! Here’s a pretty detailed, but not spoilerish, review. (Kotaku)
After the jump, Valve’s secret project, another reason why newspapers are dying and the obligatory ME3 trailer. Continue reading

This weekend at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, we were treated to the first proper trailer for Mass Effect 3. The first two editions of the Mass Effect franchise have been critically acclaimed, award-winning games so the expectations are massive for the (supposedly) final installment in Commander Sheppard’s battle against the Reapers.
