Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: Got Defense?

How do you make up for leaky goaltending? Just score plenty of goals! With the series knotted at two, the series headed back to the United Center where the Blackhawks hope to use the home advantage to snatch a win. Goals were exchanged regularly on both ends but only one came up on top and is now another step closer to the Stanley Cup. Continue reading

Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: Make It Best of Three

Game four saw the teams coming in with two different agendas. The Flyers dropped Dan Carcillo for James van Riemskyk to add some scoring punch and lose some careless penalty minutes. The Blackhawks were looking to recapture the dominant play that’s been missing since the midpoint of game two. This could be the most important game of the series. A Flyers win would make the series best of three. A Hawks win would give them a chance to clinch the series in game five. Continue reading

Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: Upon Further Review

On a night when instant replay would have preserved a perfect game in the hockey stronghold of Detroit, it was used to perfection in Philadelphia. A pair of instant replays of close goal calls were used that swung momentum in the game and possibly in the series. Continue reading

Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: It’s Not About the Big Guns

Last night was game 2 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. Unlike the first game, each team was playing a lot more carefully and there were fewer offensive blows on each end. Once again it wasn’t the big names that made the difference in the game and by the end of the night, one of the teams managed to squeeze in a narrow victory. Continue reading

Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: One Down…

Game one of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals were last night. It definitely didn’t go according to the script as the two offenses traded blows, the defences stood idly by and goalies worked on their tan thanks to the goal light. In all, 11 goals were scored over the sixty minutes of play. At the end of those three periods, one team was one win closer to winning Lord Stanley’s Cup. Continue reading

Lowdown Extra: May 11, 2010

After a week’s delay, it’s time for the latest edition of The Lowdown Extra. The latest uncut and uncensored edition of The Lowdown is the full edition of our most recent episode. The episode starts with Jackie creating a Facebook page for the show and blog. While he was at it, he made one for Steve which caused all hell to break loose. The problems with Steve’s Facebook profile prompted Jackie to take a look at the best prank calls of all-time. (If you listen to the show, it’ll make sense). The news looks at sex, drug, and… Aliens? As strange as it sounds, the gang talks about extraterrestrials and the apocalypse. Entertainment features Tyler Hilton as Jackie’s single of the week, The Wheel Wells from YouTube, and B.o.B. winning the Worst of Music (which has a shitty new intro). Jackie tops entertainment with his exclusive review of Iron Man 2. After the break, the boys attempt to look at the 2010 UEFA Champions League finals. After largely failing at that, they go back to YouTube with some funny hockey clips including a Jaroslav Halak song and more of Randy Moller’s goal calls.

In all, it’s 63 minutes of Lowdown action. It’s the longest Lowdown ever. As always, it comes to you uncut and uncensored.

2010 NHL Playoffs: Conference Finals Preview

Two rounds of playoff action are in the books and history has been made. While everything in the Western Conference went according to plan, the Eastern Conference has seen history made repeatedly. As a result, the first vs. second seed matchup in the West is the complete opposite of the East where the seventh and eighth seed faceoff. Two teams are just four wins away from being able to raise a banner to the rafters while one team is just eight wins away from raising Lord Stanley’s Cup. After going nine for twelve in the first two rounds, I try to pick who will play for the Stanley Cup. Continue reading

Lowdown Radio: May 11, 2010

The third-last episode of the third radio season may have been at a slow time of year but things are seldom slow at Lowdown HQ. On this episode, Jackie creates a Facebook page for the show and blog. While he was at it, he made one for Steve which caused all hell to break loose. The problems with Steve’s Facebook profile prompted Jackie to take a look at the best prank calls of all-time. (If you listen to the show, it’ll make sense). The news features a couple of quick stories. Entertainment has the usual suspects (Jackie’s single and It Came From YouTube) and Jackie’s exclusive review of Iron Man 2. After the break, the boys attempt to look at the 2010 UEFA Champions League finals. After largely failing at that, they go back to YouTube with some funny hockey clips including a Jaroslav Halak song and more of Randy Moller’s goal calls. It’s 28 great minutes of Lowdown fun and randominity that’s one of the better efforts of the season.

She may not have topped Maxim’s Hot 100 list this year but Marisa Miller is a perennial contender. And if she actually rides a Harley, all the better.

Everybody remembers Tim Donaghy, right? Well, the betting system he used while still a ref is doing just fine for him now that he’s unemployed. (Black Sports Online)
