Hockey (Last) Night In Canada: Upon Further Review

On a night when instant replay would have preserved a perfect game in the hockey stronghold of Detroit, it was used to perfection in Philadelphia. A pair of instant replays of close goal calls were used that swung momentum in the game and possibly in the series.

Chicago 3 @ Philadelphia 4 (OT) – This was another back-and-forth game between the two remaining combatants for Lord Stanley’s Cup. Philly took a pair of leads to see Chicago answer back. Their second lead was thanks to a video review that overturned a no goal call. The Hawks were able to get a lead in the third thanks to a Patrick “20 Cent” Kane breakaway goal but Ville Leino answered back 20 seconds later to blow the roof off the rink. The Flyers proceeded to dominate the remaining 23 minutes of the proceedings until Claude Giroux deflected home the game winner. If it wasn’t for the use of instant replay, we’d likely see the Cup raised on Friday night by Chicago. For now, they’ll have to wait until game five at the earliest to clinch the title. Meanwhile, since the Hawks scored those two quick goals in game two, the Flyers have controlled the play. It’s still too soon to say that Philly should roll over and play dead.
Chicago leads the series 2-1

Three Stars of the Night:
1. Claude Giroux (Philadelphia) – 1 goal, 2 assists
2. Scott Hartnell (Philadelphia) – 1 goal, 1 assist
3. Ville Leino (Philadelphia) – 1 goal

Friday’s Schedule:
Chicago at Philadelphia – CHI leads 2-1 (TV: CBC, Versus)
