Football Night In Canada: Week 7 Wrapup

Week 7 is a critical week in the run to the Grey Cup. This is the last week before the Labour Day rivalry week that all eight teams will be in action. That means that teams on the outside looking in can make up a lot of ground before that final sprint to the playoffs. Continue reading

Michael-Vick-Philadelphia-Eagles-7The weeks of speculation have come to an end. Yesterday, everyone said that he was going to sign in Chicago. Earlier today, Vick was about to become a member of the Buffalo/Toronto Bills. Finally, reports have come out this evening that Michael Vick has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. Video Game Review: NCAA Football 10

ncaa-football-10-ps3-coverNCAA Football 10 is the 13th iteration of the critically acclaimed college football video game. This year’s edition is the third on the PS3 which I’m reviewing it on. The challenge with sports games like this is that, since it comes out every year, a lot of work has to go into it to keep it fresh. It’s easy to just sit back and only update the rosters and playbooks every season. Instead, EA Sports has gone big with this edition with two big new features and a major overhaul of another game mode. So do the changes make NCAA 10 the first must play college football game on PS3 or is it just another step in the right direction? Find out after the jump. Continue reading

Football Night In Canada: Week 6 Wrapup

Each team crossed the one-third mark at the final whistle of their games this week. Some teams (like BC, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Toronto) are trying to turn their season around an either get a divisional or cross-over playoff berth. Meanwhile, the other teams (Montreal, Hamilton, Edmonton, and Saskatchewan) are looking to pull away and cement themselves as Grey Cup contenders. Continue reading

Sunday Link-Off: All About Karma

diora-baird-fhm-spain-4After spending a week with just Jackie, you get me again! No! Don’t run away! Damn…

Anyway, here’s Diora Baird who seems to be well on her way to world domination. Not that I’m complaining at all.

It’s that time of year again. Time to vote for the Deadspin Hall of Fame Class of 2009. I like Barkley, Starbury, and Dong. No, wait. (Deadspin)

What do you do if you aren’t happy with the team that drafted you? You sit out and re-enter the draft. Suddenly, Eric Lindros doesn’t seem so bad (except for holding out on my hometown Soo Greyhounds). (Sports Illustrated)

Division I-AA (or FCS, for the technical types) powerhouse Appalachian State has lost their quarterback for their training camp after he ran over his foot with a lawnmower. As a Michigan fan, I think this is karma. Better late than never. (AppFan)

After the jump, lots of sports news, failed VW ad attempts, and… CIS news? It really was a slow week. Continue reading

Football Night in Canada: Week 5 Wrapup

Week Five brings us past the one-quarter mark of the CFL season. Now we’re starting to see some separation between the contenders and the pretenders. Hamilton looks like they could make the playoffs while the BC Lions hope they are chumps as they look to march toward the playoffs. The Green Riders, the Eskies, and the Stamps are all tied a top the West Division and are trying to get a leg up. Meanwhile, Winnipeg is trying to get something going this season with a new quarterback. Continue reading

Football Night In Canada: Week 4 Wrapup

The fourth week of the 2009 CFL season brings us past the one-fifth mark of the 19 week regular season. This week was all about the dichotomy between the contenders and the pretenders. The surprisingly successful Hamilton Tiger-Cats would test how good they were against the undefeated Alouettes. Elsewhere, floundering teams would meet in Winnipeg as the Argos came to town. Calgary battled B.C. in a West Division Final rematch from last season while Edmonton and Saskatchewan trying to snap their (short) losing skids. Continue reading

Vaughn Martin Signs With San Diego

Former UWO Mustang defensive lineman Vaughn Martin has signed a contract with the San Diego Chargers. While nothing has been confirmed officially, the contract is believed to be a four-year deal with the first two year guaranteed. Martin is expected to get a $500,000 signing bonus in keeping with the standard for fourth round draft picks. Money hasn’t been confirmed either but is expected to be in the range of $2.2M to $2.5M. However, we can confirm Martin’s rating in Madden 10. He has an overall rating of 54.

Football Night In Canada: Week 3 Wrapup

The third week of the CFL season was a tribute to its history. Each team played its games in a 1960’s retro jersey during the CFL’s Retro Week. While all the games weren’t vintage rivalries didn’t mean that the teams didn’t give their all and go hard for the win. Among the big games for the week were Saskatchewan and Montreal battling to be the sole remaining undefeated team this season. However, even that game failed to provide any real excitement at the wire. Continue reading

Which Team Should Adopt Michael Vick?

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that former NFL star and admitted dog abuser Michael Vick has been released from prison and is now under house arrest. Upon his release talk immediately turned to what Vick would do next. Would NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reinstate Vick and allow him to play this season? Would any team have anything to do with a player with as much “baggage” as Vick? Well, I’d like to have a little fun with this whole story and speculate where the man otherwise known as Ron Mexico might end up complete with low-grade photoshop work. Continue reading
