Video Game Review: WRC 2 (FIA World Rally Championship)
There was a short period of time when the Speed Channel would air one-hour recaps of each World Rally Championship event. These shows would show highlights and results of most rally stages and would have interviews and technical features. I always thought these guys were sort of nuts to try to thread the needle of a 300 HP race car on a dirt/snow/poorly paved road that’s maybe a car-width and a half wide with trees or a cliff or a large drop on either side of the road. Fortunately, my dreams of being a rally driving lunatic can be fulfilled virtually in WRC 2. But how good is this game at recreating the rally experience? I review the game after the jump. Formula One: 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix Cancelled
With a month to go before the May 1st deadline for rescheduling the race, the Bahrain Motor Federation will officially cancel the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix. The race was initially postponed due to political unrest in the country with the possibility of rescheduling but cancelled outright today. Continue reading

It’s time for the third and final part of our Formula One season preview. With the examination of the teams, drivers, and new rules out of the way, it’s time to put all of the information we have together for predictions for the 2011 season. Of course, the combination of the new rules and testing times is not necessarily an accurate portrayal of who’s fast which makes predicting the season a difficult proposition. Three new teams took to the track which brought the car count increase to 24 for the first time since 1997. All twelve teams return for 2011 which is an improvement over 1997 when there were 24 cars for only the opening race of the season. Last year, I did a hypothetical experiment that looked at what would happen to the F1 title chase if Bernie Ecclestone insisted upon adopting NASCAR’s Chase for the Cup format. With Fernando Alonso coming up one race short of winning the title and Sebastian Vettel coming from third place in the standings to win his first title. So how would this year’s epic World Championship turn out under the NASCAR Chase for the Cup playoff format? The long awaited announcement of who would take up the 13th grid slot in Formula One for the 2011 was as big a disappointment as US F1’s attempts to make the grid. The FIA has decided not to grant any of the applicants an entry into Formula One making this whole effort much ado about nothing. While Formula One tries to grow, the FIA’s red tape ties it down. Formula One 2013: What The Future Could Be
Autosport recently revealed some of the likely technical specifications for F1 starting in 2013. The cars look to be getting a complete overhaul as the rumour is that cars will be allowed to use the underbody of the cars to generate downforce (also called ground effect downforce) and with 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder engines. However, I think that F1 has missed a chance to make itself more relevant to motor industry and get some manufacturers back into the sport.

F1 Belgian GP: Eyes on the Skies
Two safety cars and intermittent rain made for a very interesting Belgian Grand Prix. Tire strategies were based largely on what teams were seeing on the radar. In the end, Lewis Hamilton didn’t have to worry much about weather or crashes. Mark Webber bogged down on the start and that was all that Hamilton needed to take the win and championship lead.
