Embrace The Hate: How The Heat Can Grow The NBA

The Miami Heat were supposed to run roughshod over the NBA. They were supposed to have at least 73 wins this season before sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. However, the Heat are currently a 0.500 team that looks like they won’t catch a sniff of even a division crown. The Heat could have been a viewership draw as a dominant force that everyone would respect but want to see torn down at the same time. As they’re no threat to win the NBA championship, it’s time to dip into the David Stern slash Vince McMahon playbook to salvage the NBA season. It’s time for a complete heel turn. Continue reading

The Humanoids: Thanksgiving Hangover

The Humanoids is back from another week off. Not that anyone missed it, I’m sure. Anyway, there’s no real rhyme or reason to this week’s column. Maybe it’s getting back to what I originally envisioned the column as: A weekly look at some compelling persons, places, and things. And I won’t be talking about that balloon kid. After all, he’s dominated CNN since it happened and likely will for the next couple of months. I’d rather talk about anything else. Has anyone else noticed that long weekends are good at the time but mess up the rest of the week? I’ve found myself completely lost this week because I’m working four instead of five days. I thought yesterday was Friday even though I knew it wasn’t because I still had to finish writing this column. Oh, the fun that the tryptophan in the turkey has with you.

By the way, did you catch last week’s episode of The Lowdown radio show? I don’t blame you if you didn’t. It wasn’t one of our best efforts ever. From the news onward, it was pretty good though. The next episode is lining up to be pretty good. We’re taping it tonight. We’ll have a The Beatles: Rock Band review and some Halloween related stuff too. If all goes well, it should be an instant classic. Continue reading

Weekend Link-Off: I’m A Sens Fan Now

Hilary Duff and Carrie Underwood are now the main attraction of Sens games.

If there wasn’t a good reason to be an Ottawa Senators fan before, you won’t find a better one that getting to see Hilary Duff and Carrie Underwood at each home game.  In case you cared (and you probably shouldn’t), Carrie’s man, Mike Fisher, scored the OT winner at this particular game on Wednesday against Tampa.

By the way, I’m covering the Ontario University hockey championship game at 7:30 on 94.9 FM (in London) and CHRWradio.com.  We’ll be switching off between hockey in London and a national semi-final basketball game in Ottawa.  That should be interesting.
