Entertainment Link-Off: Superhero Landing

greer grammerThe weekend is here, so it’s time for the quick weekly fix of entertainment links. I’m sure most of you are still enamored with Captain America Civil War right now, so that’s probably why most of the big releases are holding back for now. Meanwhile in Australia, I already caught the release of Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising. It’s quite the funny flick despite the recycled premise. Anyway I’m looking forward to the release of The Nice Guys next week. At the premiere for the film, Greer Grammer just happened catch my attention, so let’s kick off the ELO with her this week.

After the jump, some Marvel casting news, Fantastic Four 2 still might happen, John Cho would make a great leading man, first look at Assassin’s Creed, Deadpool mocks Deadpool and a new Kpop band has hit the scene! Umm well… sort of. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: Spanish Grand Prix

Four races into the 2016 Formula One World Championship and there is one driver clearly out front of the field. Nico Rosberg has won the first four races of the season and has a near two-race lead over the rest of the field, including teammate Lewis Hamilton. While it’s a great run of form, how much longer will it last? We try to answer that in this weekend’s F1 Power Rankings.

Game of Thrones: Oathbreaker Review

game-of-thrones-oathbreaker-headerNot everyone in Game of Thrones gets a happy ending but the only thing that is certain in A Song of Ice and Fire is that everyone’s story will reach an end. As you would expect from Game of Thrones, more stories reached their end but a couple of stories started anew this week.

Wednesday Link-Off: Panama and Politics and PACs, Oh My

emma-stone-metgala16-01In the grand scheme of post titles, I’ve probably come up with worse. I doubt there have been many worse than this but it does summarize this week’s biggest stories. Granted, politics and money are big stories any day of the week but not every week has the Panama Papers database released.

Anyway, it’s Wednesday so that means that we have to do the links. Let’s kick things off with Emma Stone.

Former Facebook workers say that the social networking site would suppress conservative news. (Gizmodo)

Contrast this with the pro-Hilary Correct the Record PAC that promotes Hilary on social media. (LA Times)

With the Panama Papers database being uploaded online, hundreds of leading economists are calling on world leaders to end tax havens. (SCMP)

Clash Royale Review: Dealing from the Bottom of the Deck

clash-royale-bannerNow that I’ve got a phone that’s less than three years old, I can finally start reviewing mobile games. Let’s start with one of the latest games to top the mobile games charts.

Supercell had a hit on its hands with Clash of Clans. The tower defense game still sits near the top of Google’s top grossing games chart. For their follow-up, they took many of the elements of Clash of Clans and distilled it into a competitive multiplayer strategy game called Clash Royale.

Sunday Link-Off: Breaking News

nina-dobrev-metgala16-02Apologies for not doing links earlier this week. I’ve been busy in IRL so I’ve been falling behind on blogging. If you think it’s bad over here, you should see how quiet et geekera has gotten. That being said, I do have a few game reviews coming over the next couple of weeks including a mobile review so business should be picking up.

Anyway, it’s Sunday so it’s time for the links. Since we have a lot of Canadian stories in today’s links, let’s kick off with Nina Dobrev.

The big story in Canada right now is the Fort McMurray wildfire. Here’s a look inside the town right now. (MacLean’s)

Presumptive Presidential nominees Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump has record-breaking unfavourability ratings. (FiveThirtyEight)

Just to remind you, yes, some Americans are very serious about emigrating to Canada to avoid a Trump presidency. (Rolling Stone)

Entertainment Link-Off: Finally Catching Up!

A2ATo the folks in North America, you finally get the chance to see Captain America: Civil War in cinemas this weekend! It might be worth multiple viewings to catch those Easter eggs. Anyway, it’s Saturday again, so it’s time for the ELO. I’m gonna kick things off with Cantopop duo A2A. I’m really digging their new track, so I’ve included their latest music video in the links below.

After the jump, we got a new Han Solo, Deadpool helps with ED, the Chinese will get first dibs on Warcraft, imagine what would happen if civil war happened on the CW’s DC universe, James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke just went to a whole new level and finally there is some new music to check out. F1 Russian Grand Prix: Life in the Hot Seat

All the luck at Mercedes seems to go one way. It either goes all to Lewis Hamilton or, as it has lately, Nico Rosberg. With two engine failures in qualifying and a water pressure failure that looks to have rendered another useless, it looks like luck isn’t on Lewis’s side. Nico, on the other hand, has a nearly two-race points lead after winning the first four races of the season including the Russian Grand Prix.

Game of Thrones: Home Review

game-of-thrones-home-headerIs it better for a story to be predictable or should it throw a few curveballs at you along the way? If every story was plot twists for their own sake, it would be Vince Russo booking and that put WCW out of business (among many, many, many other things). Some of the various characters had some pretty big twists in their stories while other big stories just went the way we expected. It’s a nice mix and probably the way that the stories needed to go.
