In the week since the Bahrain Grand Prix, everyone has floated their own theory as to why the race was such a dull and dreary affair. The track, deservedly, gets much of the blame. The new refuelling ban and its effect on race strategy takes some of the blame, as well. However, as has been the focus for the last few years, the aerodynamics of the cars is at the centre of the firestorm. Not surprisingly, the advanced aero packages on the cars are being blamed for the lack of quality racing. F1 Bahrain GP: Header Cracking Fun
For the first half of the race, it seemed as though we were in for a season-long passing of the torch. Sebastian Vettel stormed away from the field in a race that quickly settled in as a procession. Then a funny thing happened. Vettel’s car fell well off the pace and Fernando Alonso charged by to win his first race in a Ferrari. Alonso may have won the day but the big winner was Felipe Massa who finished a solid second in his first race back from injury. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton finished third but the result wasn’t what folks were talking about. Continue reading

It’s time for the third and final part of our Formula One season preview. With the examination of the teams, drivers, and new rules out of the way, it’s time to put all of the information we have together for predictions for the 2010 season. F1 2010 Season Preview: The Teams
It’s that time of year again race fans. We’re days away from the V8 engines of the Formula One World Championship firing up in anger for the first time in 2010. This season is a whole new game. Last season, 20 cars started every race. This year, 26 cars are expected to be at most races but not all of them. Of course, that’s assuming that there will be a full grid at any race this season. Formula One: FIA Drops The Ball With Its Shortened Entry List
Yesterday, the FIA announced that US F1 would not be participating in the 2010 Formula One World Championship. They also announced that it was too late for a replacement teams to be drafted in for the American team. This announcement came despite repeated statements from Stefan Grand Prix that they had a package ready for the first race of the season. This debacle has shown that the entry process that the FIA is using for Formula One is flawed. Continue reading

Hindsight Booking The Closing Ceremonies Concert
Alanis Morrisette, Avril Lavigne and Nickelback? The thought provoking “Whoa Vancouver” by Inward Eye? That’s the best we could muster for the whole world to see? While both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver were wonderful through my gold coloured glasses, some of the talent booking decisions were beyond horrible. It’s not a matter of why would the producer hire these guys. More a matter of “Was everyone else booked and not willing to clear their schedules?” Bryan Adams singing something other than Summer of ’69 was a mistake and they just kept piling up from there. I’ve been saying since the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing that a Canadian ceremony has to be a giant rock concert. Why not? After all, we have loads of rock and roll talent right here in our backyard. I’m glad that someone followed my advice, it’s just too bad that they did it in the worst way possible.
So let’s fix VANOC’s mistakes and put together a real concert for the ages just to show the world that we aren’t as musically hopeless as we came off during the closing ceremony. Continue reading
