2010 OUA Football Award Winners

On Tuesday, the OUA announced this season’s first and second team all-stars. Today at the OUA football awards breakfast in Hamilton, the season-end award winners were announced. Interestingly, Western and Ottawa weren’t the big winners on the day. Instead, it was the Queen’s Gaels who took home three awards to be the most decorated team in the OUA this season despite a 6th place finish in the regular season. This year’s award winners after the jump. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 6

For the second week running, there’s a new team a top the Power Rankings. Finally, my faith in one goalie (and his team) has paid off and they’ve assumed top spot in the NHL and The Lowdown Power Rankings. Along with the top spot, just about every other slot in the rankings changed hands as early season hot and cold streaks sort themselves out and we get a clearer picture of who are contenders and who are pretenders this season. Continue reading

2010 OUA Football All-Stars

We’ve given a lot of coverage to this year’s OUA football season so it’s only fitting that we also take a look at some of the end of season awards. Today, the OUA announced this year’s first and second team all-stars. Each of the nine coaches of active OUA teams cast a vote for the all-star teams. Not surprisingly, the two Yates Cup Final teams, Ottawa and Western, were the two most represented teams on the First All-Star Team. Western also topped the overall all-star count. After the jump, we have the all-star lists and count up the players from each team. Continue reading

F1 Brazilian GP: We Are The (Constructors’) Champion

The Brazilian Grand Prix has a history of crowning champions. Since 2005, the World Drivers’ Champion had clinched his crown at the Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paulo. All eyes were on Fernando Alonso as he tried to claim his third championship. However, a third place finish leaves the championship open for the final race of the season. However, Red Bull Racing clinched the World Constructors’ Championship thanks to a one-two finish led by Sebastian Vettel who scored his fourth win of the season. Continue reading

OUA Morning Warmup: Semi-Finals

At the start of the season, there were four teams that were always among the favourites for the 2010 Yates Cup. Those four teams finished in the top four in the OUA regular season standings. And those four teams are the only ones left standing as we enter the second-last week of OUA football play. This week is the OUA semi-finals. Top seeded Ottawa will host the Laurier Golden Hawks while regional rivals do battle as McMaster travels to London to face the Western Mustangs. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 5

The first month of the NHL season is in the books and we’re no closer to separating the pretenders from the contenders. What we do know is that the Kings and Lightning are contending teams this season. The Devils, Sabres and Senators, on the other hand, have done complete 180s from last season. One thing that hasn’t been settled yet is who won the Halak trade but I’ve ranked one team ahead of the other in each rankings list. Continue reading

Best Screencaps of the World Series

The World Series is in the books and the San Francisco are the unlikely world champions despite the better, though almost non-existent, efforts of the Texas Rangers. After the last drop of champagne was sprayed in the Giants’ clubhouse and Tim Lincecum smoked the first of many joints on the night, I thought it would be a good idea to look back on the series through the magic of TV screencaptures. So here’s a look at the best images captured from the TV coverage of the fall classic. Continue reading

OUA Morning Warmup: Quarter-Finals

It’s been a weird season in the OUA. Waterloo withdrew from OUA football for the season because of a steroid scandal. Toronto stepped up and lost out on a playoff spot on a tiebreaker. The defending Vanier Cup champion Queen’s Gaels got in the playoffs by winning that tiebreaker over Toronto. But all the drama of the regular season gives way to the drama of the OUA playoffs. Today, four teams do battle and only two will survive to see another week’s action. Continue reading

NHL Power Rankings: Week 4

It’s time for our second dose of the weekly Lowdown power rankings of NHL teams. We’ve got a new team atop the rankings because the Caps forgot how to score and save. The Central Division isn’t on top but they control the Top Ten. And the Leafs are who we thought they were. It really is a good week to be objectively rating hockey teams against each other. Continue reading

F1 Korean GP: Yes, It Actually Happened

It wasn’t until twelve days before the Grand Prix that we actually knew that there would be a Korean Grand Prix. It turns out that saying that was relative, really. It seemed like driver that led the most laps was Bernd Maylander who drives the safety car. Rain mixed with a lack of adequate drainage of the track meant a pair of starts behind the safety car. It was Sebastian Vettel that was scored as leading the most laps until his Renault engine grenaded. That let Fernando Alonso through to win and take the Drivers’ Championship lead. Continue reading
