Halloween is just over a week away. As per usual, I still haven’t carved my pumpkin for the year yet. It’s not that I’m prone to procrastinating and leaving things to the last minute. Everyone knows how to carve a standard Jack-o-Lantern but I really don’t want to stick to the status quo pumpkin design. That’s why I once again looked up some amazing looking Jack-o-Lanterns for inspiration. Maybe you should take note when carving yours.

Wallpapers of the Week: April 26, 2014
I think it’s time for us to bring back an old favourite that we just kind of let end two years ago. Since you guys liked it then, I think that bringing it back and better than ever will go over just as well.
I like changing up my desktop wallpaper on a regular basis. My wallpaper at my day job is a slideshow so I have a new wallpaper every thirty minutes or so to change things up ever so slightly. So to help you change things up for your work week, I’ve scoured Reddit for five wallpapers that are worth adding to your collection for this week.
The Evolution of Famous Logos (Infographic)
We’re all used to the various logos that we see all around us every day but if you were around only 25 years ago, the world would look much different. I’m not talking about the advancement of technology over that time. Even the most iconic of brands have undergone extensive changes in brand design since their launch.
To illustrate this point, we have a handy infographic for you to study.
The Lowdown Blog Annual: 2013
With another year having come and gone, I thought it was time to look back at the best of the past 12 months here on The Lowdown Blog. This year was a different one for us. We launched a sister blog, cut back a bit on the Man Lab posts and increased the video game posts. The result might have been a giant U-shape in the traffic over the course of the year but I’m happy with where the blog is today.
So let’s look back at the year with our most read posts from 2013 and the most read posts overall in 2013.
YouTube’s Content ID System is Hurting Your Favourite Channels
Not only are YouTube content creators having to deal with a massive change to the networking system that will affect their ability to make money, but YouTube made a massive sweep of videos in a content matching check that caused a lot of YouTubers to lose the monetization rights to many videos.
YouTube’s content ID system is fairly indiscriminate. If it finds content that matches copyrighted content in their data base, the monetization rights revert to the original creator. The problem is that it makes no provisions for fair use and the dispute system is often considered as non-existent.
But rather than rehash this week’s column about YouTube on monetization, this detailed explanation of YouTube content matching, monetization and the implications of the current system by Force of Force Strategy Gaming does a much better job than I ever could.
Amazing Jack-O-Lanterns 2013
Halloween is just under a week away. As usual, I still haven’t carved my pumpkin for the year yet. Everyone knows how to carve a standard Jack-o-Lantern but I really don’t want to stick to the status quo pumpkin design. That’s why I once again looked up some amazing looking Jack-o-Lanterns for inspiration. Maybe you should take note when carving yours.
The History of Canadian Thanksgiving (Infographic)
It’s going to be a quiet day on the blog today because it’s a holiday up here in Canada. Today is our Thanksgiving. Unlike America which has Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, in Canada, it’s the second Monday in October. In fact, Thanksgiving in Canada has been in April, May, June and November before being an October holiday.
So to celebrate a day off in the fall, let’s bring back a classic infographic with this look at the history of Canadian Thanksgiving.
The Best of Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2013
Barrett-Jackson only runs four of its world-famous collector car auctions each year. The final auction is one of its newer ones. This weekend is Barrett-Jackson’s 6th annual Las Vegas auction which appropriately takes place on The Strip at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
Every year, millions of people drop billions of dollars in casinos looking to win the big jackpot. At Barrett-Jackson, car buyers will spend millions of dollars hoping to hit the jackpot by buying the car of their dreams or a collector car that will increase in value. So here are five of my favourite cars from this week’s auction that will be a cool ride for the lucky buyer that hits the auction block jackpot.
How Much Do Top YouTubers Make? (Infographic)
Since we cover games fairly frequently on this blog and since the most subscribed channel on YouTube is the games channel of PewDiePie, I thought it would be fun to find out how much the top YouTubers make. Fortunately, we have this handy infographic that estimates how much YouTube’s top earners make from ads.
