When you come into a season of Game of Thrones, you know that it’s the ninth episode of the season that everything is building up to. That’s where something big happens. But what happens when the writers and producers change things up on you and make it the second, rather than the second-to-last episode that changes everything. We’re about to find out this season after The Lion and The Rose.

Entertainment Link-Off: Choose Your Destiny
In theatres this weekend are two films that didn’t quite live up to the hype. Draft Day and Rio 2 are going to battle each other out in North America. Meanwhile over in Aussieland, Divergent is finally out! Think of it as Hunger Games lite, but it’s still quite entertaining. So once again, I’ll use this as an excuse to kick it all off with the film’s leading lady Shailene Woodley.
After the jump, some tidbits on the upcoming Transformers flick, Marvel is doing very well in the movie business, waste some time with The Raid 2 online game, check out some red band trailers and Drake goes undercover for Jimmy Kimmel. Continue reading
Game of Thrones: Two Swords Review
Game of Thrones came back with an epic episode on Sunday night to kick off its fourth season and the second of two seasons based on George R. R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords. After the mind-blowing (for people who didn’t read the books) conclusion to last season, there were a lot of plot threads that needed resolving. That’ll take the whole season and has some new storylines added in for good measure.
The Best of the Ultimate Warrior
I was planning to do a best of the interweb post today but I thought that I would use this space to pay tribute to The Ultimate Warrior instead. I had a few favourite wrestlers growing up. I was a Hulkamaniac like everyone else. Being Canadian, Bret Hart was one of my favourites. Then there were the heels, Mr. Perfect and Ted DiBiase, who were just too good to hate (and/or feuding with Virgil who was terrible and not worth the time, even to a kid).
The most unique wrestler of them all, and another of my favourites, was the Ultimate Warrior. He wasn’t as swollen as Hogan but he looked more muscular. He didn’t have the most coherent interviews but you couldn’t help but be captivated. He had the coolest ring music and entrance in the Fed. And many, many years down the road, I figured out that he could work matches too. (I’ll explain.)
So let’s look back on some of the best and most memorable moments of The Ultimate Warrior’s career.
Entertainment Link-Off: Soldier On
The summer blockbusters are hitting theatres early once again as Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits the cinemas before anyone else. It’s currently certified fresh, so that’s another Marvel film sitting well with the critics and fans. Anyway, you can catch Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Black Widow in the film. Better yet, you can see more of Scarlett in the film Under the Skin, which also opens this weekend.
After the jump, Key & Peele tackle Police Academy, Expendables 3 roll call, figure out how much time you have wasted on TV, some news on How I Met Your Mother, honest trailers tackles Game of Thrones, Sam Jackson is a Boy Meets World fan, check out a real life Spider-Man and David Letterman announces his retirement from Late Night. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Sail Away
It’s been a busy week and weekend, so let’s keep the latest ELO short and sweet. At the box office this weekend, you can catch another retelling of the story of Noah. Apparently it’s a hit among critics and no so much among the church-goers. Anyway, Emma Watson is in the flick, so let’s start off with her.
After the jump, Community might be getting six seasons and a movie, catch a bloody deleted scene from The Raid 2, an infographic describing how Hollywood has destroyed America, it would cost tax payers a lot to maintain a superhero, a few new movie trailers to see and finally Dana Williams & Leighton Meester tackles a Fleetwood Mac track. A Look Ahead to Season Four of Game of Thrones
We’re less than three weeks away from the start of Season Four of Game of Thrones. I think it’s time that we get properly excited for GoT over here on The Lowdown Blog. So today, we have HBO’s 15-minute preview video of the upcoming season that features cast interviews and clips from upcoming episodes. This video got me more excited for this season than any of the trailers did.
By the way, there are spoilers in this video. You probably guessed that, though.
Entertainment Link-Off: Make A Choice
The highly anticipated YA novel adaptation Divergent hits theatres this week. So let’s kick off the ELO with the leading lady from the film Shailene Woodley.
After the jump, Pacific Rim 2 is still happening, new Godzilla stuff to check out, The CW is the new sci-fi central and watch Bradley Cooper prove Louis CK wrong.
Entertainment Link-Off: We Used To Be Friends
In theatres this week, there’s the highly anticipated video game adaptation Need for Speed! For those that were into the cult TV classic Veronica Mars, after a very long wait, we finally get a followup movie for a show that was cancelled way too soon! Let’s kick it off with Veronica Mars herself Kristen Bell at the premiere for the film.
After the jump, learn how to run a TV show in 2014, an amazing Matrix fan film to check out, a cool concept movie trailer to see, Game of Thrones sorta has an end date, and watch the hilarious blooper reel from Anchorman 2. Continue reading
Entertainment Link-Off: Seize Your Glory
At the box office this weekend marks the anticipated quasi-sequel 300: Rise of an Empire. The green screen heavy war epic is back for another round of stylized action and bloodfest. At least there’s a lot more eye candy to go around this time as Eva Green is featured prominently as Artemisia.
After the jump, the CW fails at pushing boundaries, punk goes pop once again, Funny or Die is sorry about something again, check out the ugly ‘doh’ moment during the famous Oscar selfie, a few trailers to check out and True Detective gets the Community treatment. Continue reading
