F1 Italian Grand Prix: Silly Season 2017
There was a race this weekend but everyone’s focus was off the track. Sure, Lewis Hamilton lacked the mental fortitude to hold off teammate Nico Rosberg which allowed the German to close the World Drivers’ Championship to two points. However, the focus this weekend was on the silly season happenings that will affect Formula One going forward.
Sunday Link-Off: Meanwhile, In Canadian Politics
I’ve been ignoring the Sunday links until this morning because I’ve been working on the F1 weekend recap for tomorrow on the blog. Before adding in any news about the pending sale of F1 and changes at the top of the sport or the actual race recap, the post is already at 1,200 words. If you’re an F1 fan, all the info you’ll need is coming tomorrow.

Death Road to Canada Review: Road Trippin’
I have this worrying feeling that Et Geekera’s favourite games of 2016 list might be truncated this year. We’ve crossed the seven-month mark of 2016 and the only games that have secured a spot on the list are Uncharted 4 and Overwatch. Just when things were starting to look dire, zombies came back into my life. While Death Road To Canada might not look like a game that will make many year-end lists, the little pixel art roguelike zombie game has certainly earned a spot on the shortlist for our best of 2016.
F1 Power Rankings: Italian Grand Prix
So #TeamLH technically didn’t come out on top in the Belgian Grand Prix but he functionally did. There was some very good luck with that red flag that allowed him to claw most of his way up the field. I kept seeing headlines during the week like “How Lewis Hamilton scored a podium from 21st with only four passes” like F1 sites were cosplaying as BuzzFeed. This week, Louise (that’s a Hobbs-ism) will start up front. Can he keep from being slimstreamed into oblivion? The F1 Power Rankings tries to answer the question.
Wednesday Link-Off: Falling
I was listening to the Attitude Era Podcast this week and they randomly used the Twin Peaks theme for background music. I forgot how much I loved that show until then. It’s an amazing show and hopefully the continuation will be as awesome as the original. Of course, it won’t be half as weird as the world is now. The Black Lodge is a bastion of normality compared to the world today. I’d just stay in there if I was Dale Cooper.

Sure, cosplay is a popular hobby that spawned a short-lived TV series and has created some odd celebrity culture around it (and I say that as someone who owns some YouTuber merch). You can spend as much or as little as you want to dress up as your favourite video game character but going all out for some characters will cost a little more than others. Sure, you can a t-shirt that looks like Master Chief’s armor (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but if you want proper armor, that’ll cost you a not insignificant chunk of change. How much? Our friends at Sunglass Warehouse have crunched the numbers of how much it would cost to really be your favourite game heroes.
F1 Belgian Grand Prix: Taking Opportunities
When you’re handed the perfect opportunity on a silver platter, your only choice is to take it. Take the two Mercedes drivers. Lewis Hamilton’s extra engines gave Nico Rosberg the perfect opportunity to win the race. Crashes and red flag gave Hamilton an opportunity to claw his way back from the back of the grid. In both cases, they capitalized on the opportunity to score the results they needed.
Sunday Link-Off: The Foundation
There are many things you can say about the ongoing US Presidential election campaign but the least controversial statement is that it’s entertaining. That’s mostly because it’s a months-long car crash but that’s still entertaining. I’m glad that I’m not American because “entertaining” would frighten me given how it’s entertaining.

Inside Review: Still Alive
I’ve never played it but Limbo is considered one of the biggest games in indie gaming. It released in 2010 to critical acclaim for its atmosphere and art style and was part of the rise of indie gaming that saw the likes of Minecraft, Braid, Bastion, Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, among others, become critical and commercial hits.
It’s taken six years for developer Playdead to produce their second game, Inside. The spiritual successor to Limbo seems to be worth the wait as critics have universally lauded the game, even in comparison to Playdead’s previous effort. However, I don’t think it’s the 10/10 effort that most critics say that it is.
