Lewis Hamilton’s extra engines gave Nico Rosberg the perfect opportunity to win the race. Crashes and red flag gave Hamilton an opportunity to claw his way back from the back of the grid. In both cases, they capitalized on the opportunity to score the results they needed.

After four weeks off, Formula One is back. As is tradition, the first race back from summer vacation is the Belgian Grand Prix from the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit. It’s not exactly a leisurely summer drive. While a lap is 70% full-throttle and is a kilometre longer than any other track on the calendar, it has some of the toughest and most iconic corners in F1. Summer vacation is over and it’s back to work for the drivers and teams of the Formula One World Championship. It’s time for the annual trip to the Spa-Francochamps circuit for the Belgian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton may have picked up his first win in a Silver Arrow in Hungary but now that we’re at a track where passing is possible, I don’t like Mercedes’ chances.

F1 Belgian GP: Lights to Flag

While overtaking was plentiful in this year’s Belgian Grand Prix, there was one driver who was not passed all day. Jenson Button scored his first pole for McLaren this weekend and followed that up by scoring a win while leading all 44 laps of the race. Before we last left you, Lewis Hamilton took the checkered flag at the Hungarian Grand Prix in a race that could hardly be described as a parade with some pit stop strategy-enabled passes. This week, the F1 season gets back underway with a return to the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. After four weeks off, the 2011 Formula One World Championship is back in full-force for the stretch run. With eight races to go, Sebastian Vettel holds an 85 point lead over teammate Mark Webber. That’s equivalent to over three race wins meaning Vettel can sit out the next three Grands Prix and still hold a 10 point lead in the championship.
