In an announcement that may shake the foundation of the video game industry, EA Sports announced the launch of a new video game franchise. This August, EA Sports will release the first ever CIS Football video game which will be developed, appropriately, by EA Canada out of Burnaby, British Columbia.
At it’s core, the game is an update of last year’s NCAA Football10. However, significant modifications had to be made to the football gameplay for it to properly handle the nuances of Canadian football.
In a statement, EA Sports president Peter Moore said, “The response from our Canadian customers to the Team Builder feature in NCAA Football 10 was overwhelming. The number of CIS teams that the fans created showed us that there is a market for a CIS video game.” When reached by a member of the press for comment, Moore said “All we really did was cut and paste some of the man in motion source code and AI from our old Arena Football game into the NCAA Football 10 source code.”
The cover athlete is the 2009 Vanier Cup MVP and former Queen’s Gaels star quarterback Danny Brannagan. In his fifth CIS season, Brannagan broke the CIS career passing record before finishing second in that tally at season’s end. He also led his team to their first Yates Cup in 32 years and first Vanier Cup in 17 years.
EA Sports’ CIS Football 11 is scheduled for release on August 10, 2010. It is expected that the retail price will be $40 and will be available for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.
