It was a chilly day in London which meant that the winds were freezing at T.D. Waterhouse Stadium on the University of Western Ontario campus. It wasn’t just the weather that was cold but so were the All-Star offenses as they put on the second lowest scoring game in CIS all-star game history. However, the West All-Stars did just enough to earn the win by a score of 16-7. Continue reading

Western Mustangs Look To The Future With Recruiting Class
The 2009 OUA Football season looks to be a promising one for the Western Mustangs. After being to the 2008 Vanier Cup game with a relatively young and inexperienced team, the ‘Stangs are poised to go far again next season. However the Mustangs have lost some key players in DT Vaughn Martin, DB Matt Carapella, DB Corey McNair, DB Andrew Bain, OL Zach Pollari, and LB Jason Kozec. So how are the Mustangs filling in these vacancies and building toward the future? Continue reading
CFL Draft Recap
In what is likely going to be the only blog doing this, we’re covering the 2009 Canadian Football League draft. The CFL draft is unique in sports in that the only draft eligible players are those who played at Canadian universities and Canadians who played at American schools. Continue reading
Vaughn Martin Drafted By San Diego
He wasn’t on Scouts Inc’s draft board. He wasn’t on Mel Kiper’s or Todd McShay’s. But he was on the San Diego Charger’s radar. UWO defensive tackle Vaughn Martin was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round at 113th overall. Continue reading
Vaughn Martin’s Draft Stock Is On The Rise
As the NFL draft approaches this weekend, we continue our tracking of the now former Western Mustangs’ defensive tackle. Vaughn Martin Getting Attention From NFL
About a month ago, I reported that UWO defensive lineman Vaughn Martin declared for the NFL draft. In response to a comment, I wanted to go check out one of his pro days (where scouts come to see him work out). Sadly I couldn’t make either of his in London. Good news is that word has leaked out from the pro day and made it as far up the NFL food chain as ProFootballTalk.com.
He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.04 seconds, bench pressed 225 lbs. 32 times consecutively and did this to a scout: Continue reading

CIS Hockey Championship: Mustangs Lose A Heartbreaker
Six months ago, they were too young to be a threat. Five months ago, their record had them barely making the playoffs. Last month, they looked like fodder for the OUA West regular season champion. Yesterday, they were virtual locks for elimination. And today, when they fell behind to the UNB Varsity Reds, they were overmatched. In the end, the Mustangs’ storybook season came to a heartbreaking end. Continue reading
