Assassin’s Creed IV Glitch Causes The Rapture

Given the religious undertones of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, it probably wouldn’t surprise you if the game dealt with The Rapture. However, I didn’t expect it to happen accidentally.

A glitch in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag not only causes the parting of the sea but your ship’s crew to ascend into heaven. Mind you, I’m not sure if that’s a bug or a feature of this game.

E3 2013: The Ubisoft Roundup

ubisoft-logo-bannerLast but certainly not least on our roundup of Monday’s E3 press events is Ubisoft. While Ubisoft isn’t the biggest publisher on the block, to their credit, they are very willing to take risks with new IPs and new gameplay ideas. It may hurt them in the grand scheme of sales but it does earn them a lot of credit.

Canada is a Gaming Powerhouse

canadian-gamingOne thing that I’ve realized as working on our Canadian Gaming Week is that the Canadian gaming industry is currently in great shape. Sure, Vancouver could use a little bit of help and the once great BioWare has been on a down swing but to parrot a Don Cherry line about Canadian hockey, we are the best.

If you look at last week’s Canadian Videogame Awards, the nominees and winners lists look like most major year-end awards lists. Three of last year’s biggest triple-A games, the best-selling sports game in the world and two of the best reviewed indie games of 2012 were all developed on Canadian soil. Canadian gaming isn’t just a powerhouse but is thriving hotbed for the games industry.

Trials Evolution Gold Edition (PC) Review (or The Engine Has a Misfire)

trials-evolution-gold-edition-box-artDo you remember Miniclip? When I was in high school many a joke class (like intro to business, civics and career studies) was spent playing flash games that wouldn’t crash the old, cheap computers. The original mainstay was miniclip.com, which, I’m slightly surprised to say, still exists today.

That’s where I first played the Red Lynx’s Trials series (it was called Trial Bike back then). I had seen proper Trials on TV on an old show called Motorsport Mundial so I knew what Trials was about and was instantly hooked on the flash game. Naturally, I’d have to pick up Red Lynx’s first PC Trials game since it left flash.

The problem is that while Trials Evolution, the most recent Trials (né Trial Bike) game, is a critically acclaimed game on the Xbox 360, Red Lynx should have kept their PC games on flash.

E3 2012: The EA and Ubisoft Report

Because of our interest in what EA had to say about Mass Effect 3, we were eagerly anticipating this year’s EA press conference. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. There were previews of Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Sim City and the usual EA Sports properties. Over on the Ubisoft side of things, we saw more of Assassin’s Creed 3 and the debut of a new game which looks so good that it could be a next gen game. Continue reading

Wednesday Link-Off: Not Very Intelligent

katie-cassidy-l6Katie Cassidy is still alive on “Harper’s Island” but will she last the two hour finale? Find out Thursday on Global or Saturday on CBS. Skipping it wouldn’t be that smart.

The new chief of British Intelligence is on Facebook. Unfortunately for him, the KGB weren’t the only ones to get their hands on his pictures. (New York Times)

Trying a do-it-yourself home repair while drunk will always end badly. Though most people don’t end up as badly off as this British man. (Daily Telegraph)

Tommy Craggs of Deadspin thinks that he has figured out Sarah Palin’s basketball analogy from her resignation speech. I’d say his play diagram is pretty spot on. (Deadspin)

E3 2009: Monday Roundup

Not only did Microsoft have their press conference on Monday, a pair of developers had their press conferences today. Two heavyweights also took to the main stage at E3: Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. As always, the two companies were expected to make big waves with some of their announcements and didn’t disappoint. Continue reading
