Super Bowl 49 Snack Time (Infographic)

I haven’t really paid much attention since my Lions were jobbed out of the playoffs by the refs, the NFL and Roger Goodell but the Super Bowl is this weekend. The Patriots and Seahawks will do battle in a game where most fans hope that both teams can find a way to lose.

One thing that will always happen regardless of which team you hate winning the Super Bowl is the parties. Many years ago, we had an infographic that showed the 50 million cases of beer that would be consumed during the Super Bowl. How Much Does Aerith’s House Cost? (Infographic)

Digging through The Lowdown Blog inbox introduces all sorts of great things sent to us that we didn’t have time to include on the blog during the year. One such interesting post idea came to us from our friends at Movoto.

As they are wont to do, they did one of their trademark real estate valuations on a video game property. One of the valuations that I thought was the most interesting is for one of the greatest games of all-time. The team at Movoto asked how much would Aerith’s house cost you could buy that cute little house in the dirty slums of Midgar. Their handy infographic tells us the answer.

The Hobbit’s Five Armies (Infographic)

Yesterday was the North American release date for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the last movie in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit dual trilogy.

To celebrate the premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, we have not only a handy infographic with a look at the titular five armies but also an interactive flash graphic with the armies and a map.

By the way, SPOILERS! So many spoilers! Well, I suppose it’s a spoiler if you haven’t read the book.

Where We Donate vs. What Kills Us: An Infographic

Yesterday’s column about viral fundraisers omitted one important argument about why these massive viral fundraisers are a problem. While it’s great that some $80 million has been raised over the last month thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge, ALS affects only a very small portion of the population but is now eating up a massive part of the charitable donations people might have made during the year. After all, money doesn’t grow on trees.

The other problem with viral fundraisers is that it disproportionately overfundraises for diseases compared to how they affect society. Sure, there are people who would be quite justified to advocate for their causes. For example, the ALSA has, in the last one month, pulled in about half of what the American Heart Association has raised over the last 12 months. The number of ALS diagnoses over the next year will be less than 10% of the deaths from heart disease over the next year. It’s just not proportionate to what affects the health of the population.

A Visual History Of Spider-Man’s Costume (Infographic)

Since Jackie has been hyping the latest Spider-Man movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I think that it’s only appropriate to do a Spidey-themed post today. While the Rotten Tomatoes score is the lowest of the recent Spider-Man films, Jackie said that it does the multiple villain story far better than Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 did. That’s better than I expected from the film after seeing the trailer attached to Captain America 2.

Anyway, to mark the opening of the latest Spidey movie, here’s a look back at the history of Spider-Man’s costumes, both in the comics and movies, in infographic form.
