This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Orange County, California. The Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction is the most recent addition to the Barrett-Jackson auction circuit. While there aren’t as many cars (or as high prices) as the massive Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a proper man’s weekend where guys go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. So to celebrate California’s biggest collector car show where the cars and not the manufacturers are the stars, here are ten of my favourite cars available in this weekend’s auction. Continue reading

The Twenty Greatest Driving Songs
This weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer in Canada. That means the snow has finally melted which will clean up the roads for guys like us to burn some rubber. Not that we lovers of speed need anything to motivate us to put the loud pedal to the floor but one of life’s great pleasures is to crank the tunes and have the wind whip through our hair (or what hair some of us have). However, only certain tunes have you driving full throttle.
So today, we’ve taken up the seemingly thankless task of selecting the twenty best songs that make you put your foot to the floor and not look back. Continue reading
The Best of Barrett-Jackson 2012
This week is the world-famous Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction is the premier classic and rare car auction in the world. It’s the sort of thing that rich people go to for buying new status symbols and where real men go to drool over what basically is automotive erotica. It’s basically a week-long celebration of the car where gearheads are king. So to celebrate the year’s biggest car show where the cars and not the manufacturers are the stars, here are ten of my favourite cars from this week’s auction. Continue reading
Wednesday Link-Off: Record Breaking
So Esquire just named Rihanna the sexiest woman alive. Once again, a major publication gets it horribly wrong. Does anyone even have her in their top ten? I don’t think she’d even make my top fifty. Among the women I’d rank ahead of Rihanna is Genevieve Morton who made the cover of Sports Illustrated South Africa’s Swimwear Issue.
Some NHL GMs aren’t too happy with Brendan Shanahan. They gave him a mandate to issue stiffer suspensions but they didn’t actually think he would hand out stiffer suspensions. (CBC Sports)
In other Canada-centric sports stories, Anthony Calvillo became the all-time pro football passing yards record holder. That would’ve been a feat worthy of massive coverage if he wasn’t in the CFL. (Grantland)
We’ve all heard of Danica Patrick who is the most prominent of the women driving race cars but have you heard of Leena Gade? She’s the lead race engineer of the #2 Audi R18 LMP1 and led the team to victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an epic battle with Peugeot. (Jalopnik)
After the jump, what your font says about you, how to survive the zombie apocalypse and Clarkson does his thing. Continue reading
The Best of Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2011
Barrett-Jackson only runs four of its world-famous collector car auctions each year. The final auction is one of its newer ones. This week is Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction which appropriately takes place on The Strip at the Mandalay Bay Resort. Every year, millions of people drop billions of dollars in casinos looking to win the big jackpot. At Barrett-Jackson, car buyers will spend millions of dollars hoping to hit the jackpot by buying the car of their dreams or a collector car that will increase in value. So here are ten of my favourite cars from this week’s auction that will at least be cool for the lucky buyer that hits the auction block jackpot. Continue reading
Ken Block Gymkhana 4
It’s been about 11 months since we last saw Ken Block hooning about in his Ford Fiesta in his Gymkhana 3 video. Well, the unquestioned master of viral drifting videos is back with Gymkhana 4. This time, Ken slings his Fiesta around the backlot at Universal Studio. Rather than just speed, smoke and sideways cars, this edition adds explosions, gorilla suits, crashing through brick buildings and even Epic Meal Time. There are even homages to famous movies in there too. It’s a Gymkhana with something for everyone. Continue reading
Lowdown BlogCast: August 9, 2011
To show that we don’t always take months between podcasts, here’s another episode of The Lowdown BlogCast. This edition starts on a serious note as Steve and Jackie talk about the colossal failure that is the solution to the US Debt Crisis. They then debut the new Lowdown Pub Quiz in which Steve and Jackie compete in a battle of inferior intellect. (Well, at least in Steve’s case.) Hockey talk starts up with a quick analysis of the Winnipeg Jets’ new logos. The boys look at Philadelphia’s “Dry Island” policy that allegedly led to Mike Richards and Jeff Carter getting traded and what say should have in their players’ personal lives. Entertainment features Lights as Jackie’s single of the week and a throwback to the guys’ childhoods in It Came From YouTube. Lights also leads the boys to look at the schedule for UWO’s 2011 O-Week and how it’s changed since their O-Week in 2005. They talk about film nudity after news came out that Olivia Wilde’s nudity in The Change Up was CGI’d in. Entertainment wraps up with a discussion of the upcoming Battleship movie and director Peter Berg’s credits. The show wraps up with the return of the Car Wall as the boys break down another website’s list of eight cars guaranteed to pick up women and determine that it’s catastrophically wrong. In total, we have over two hours of great Lowdown action.

Wednesday Link-Off: In Charge
Time for another edition of the Wednesday links. Let’s kick off with Genevieve Morton.
Charl Schwartzel may have won The Masters but people were only talking about Tiger. Why were we back on the band wagon anyway? (Simmons)
Now that WrestleMania has come and gone and we can forget about wrestling for the next nine months, let’s look back at the good old days of the 1980s WWF. (Gunaxin)
A 59-year-old Florida man tried out for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He didn’t make the cut but it’s a fun story. (55-Yard Line)
After the jump, the FBI opens up on aliens, the latest addition to the Phallological Museum and the return of Wally Backman. Continue reading
Wednesday Link-Off: Winning
Jennifer Lawrence may have not won an Oscar for best actress but she was definitely winning on Sunday night.
The folks at GQ were planning on running this profile of Charlie Sheen in their April issue. With all that’s happened with him over the last few days, they’ve released the profile early online. That’s winning. (GQ)
Gordon Bombay has some advice for Charlie Sheen. Bombay did get a DUI in ’92 so he has some experience. That’s how he ended up coaching District 5. (Tauntr)
Want an early front-runner to win the potential NFL lockout? I’d take the owners. Some have enough money to weather a two-year lockout. (CNN Money)
After the jump, more Charlie Sheen winning, VW’s great new concept and how celebrities stay in shape. Continue reading
