Are Triple-A Games An Endangered Species?
The last six months have been far from smooth sailing for the makers of the best of the best video games. Aspiring triple-A developer 38 Studios went bankrupt under the weight of poor business decisions and an underselling game. Irrational Studios is losing top staff as BioShock Infinite allegedly struggles to its spring 2013 release date. BioWare has faced gamer and critical backlash over its last three big games (Dragon Age 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3). Blizzard’s Diablo III has faced criticism over having to be always online (exacerbated by server issues during the first week after launch) and a poor endgame.
Sure, there are still game studios dedicated to putting out only the best games but some games are being crushed under high expectations. This begs the question if the so-called Triple-A game developers we have now are long for this world and if we’ll see any new developers rise in their place. Continue reading

The Growing Gap Between the Rich and the Poor (Infographic)
While we seldom use this blog as a political pulpit, we feel as though we have an obligation to ensure that you are exposed to the facts. So much of politics is the spin. Facts, comparatively, are hard to come by. While the Republicans would have you belive that lowering taxes for the rich would benefit everyone, it would really only benefit the rich.
I say that because the wealth gap between the rich and poor has grown massively over the last 90 years. In terms of real dollars, the gap between the average one-percenter and the 99% was never bigger than at the peak of the housing bubble. In 2008 (the last year with complete data), the average pre-tax income of the top 1% was almost $1.1M greater than the bottom 99-percent’s. The Romney/Ryan campaign is taking Obama to task for shifting money from Medicare to Obamacare cutting Medicare. However, their plan for “saving Medicare” won’t do seniors any good as they plan on raising the eligibility age. (Think Progress)

Join The Lowdown Blog Fantasy Football Pool
Are you ready for some football? The 2012 NFL season starts soon so we’re launching our second annual Lowdown Blog Fantasy Football Pool. The pool is hosted on ESPN.com and uses their scoring system. There are 16 spots in the league and it’s a public pool so anyone can join which means spaces will go quickly. Each team can start the ESPN default 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 Defence and 1 K.
NASCAR Nationwide Series at Montreal Wrapup
Since 2007, Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has played host to the only Canadian stop for NASCAR’s three national touring series. This year’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race featured the usual hodgepodge of established stars, up-and-comers and road course ringers. Of course, Canada was well-represented with the likes of 1997 Formula One World Drivers’ Champion Jacques Villeneuve, Alex Tagliani, Ron Fellows, Patrick Carpentier and Andrew Ranger leading a Canadian contingent of 10 drivers.
