F1 Power Rankings: Italian Grand Prix

The proverbial fat lady is warming up. After picking up his seventh win from 12 races, Sebastian Vettel extended his championship lead to 92 points. At 25 points for a win, that’s nearly a four-race lead with only seven races to go. With the championship all but sewn up, the focus turns to the battle for second place. Four drivers are within 21 points of second spot in the World Drivers’ Championship. Something tells me that race will be a bit more exciting than the battle for the championship. Continue reading

Last year, we saw the season conclude with a final second field goal giving the Western Mustangs the Yates Cup at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. This year’s OUA battle looks to be wide-open but the picture will become a little clearer starting this afternoon with the first slate of OUA football games for 2011. Continue reading

The Western Mustangs took home their 29th Yates Cup last season but the loss of key players means that it’s wide-open at the top of the OUA. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: Belgian Grand Prix

After four weeks off, the 2011 Formula One World Championship is back in full-force for the stretch run. With eight races to go, Sebastian Vettel holds an 85 point lead over teammate Mark Webber. That’s equivalent to over three race wins meaning Vettel can sit out the next three Grands Prix and still hold a 10 point lead in the championship. It looks like back-to-back titles are in the cards for Vettel but McLaren still like their chances. Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: Hungarian Grand Prix

It’s the second of back-to-back Grand Prix weekends followed by the annual summer break for the 2011 Formula One World Championship. There’s just one problem, though. This weekend’s race is the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring. Until the creation of the Valencia street circuit, this was unquestionably the most boring track to host a race at in Formula One. After last week’s lacklustre German Grand Prix, we could be in for a second straight snoozer of a race. Will championship leader Sebastian Vettel be able to stay awake for this race or will he finish outside the top two for the second straight Grand Prix? Continue reading

2011 Edmonton Indy Wrapup

One weekend every year, the City Centre Airport in Edmonton is shut down to host the elite of North American open-wheel racing. . Since 2005, the Edmonton Indy had played host to the stars of Champ Car and the Izod IndyCar Series. After a controversial race two weeks ago on the streets of downtown Toronto, 26 IndyCars trekked across Canada for the second of two Canadian stops for the Izod IndyCar Series. Would there be payback from the events of the Toronto Indy or would everyone play nice under the watchful eye of IndyCar officials? Continue reading

F1 Power Rankings: German Grand Prix

It’s time for the 2011 German Grand Prix. This year, it’s the Nurburgring’s turn to host the race after the Hockenheimring hosted last year’s edition. Naturally, there’s a lot of talk about this historic Nordschlife circuit that F1 originally raced on. For the first time, it seems as though no one is harbouring delusions of catching Sebastian Vettel. He has a three-race lead (80 points) with 10 races left. Can we hand him the title yet? Continue reading

2011 Toronto Indy Wrapup

The streets of Toronto’s Exhibition Place have been the home to open-wheel racing in Canada since 1986. For the 25th time, IndyCar tore up the streets of downtown Toronto for Canada’s fastest street party. Twenty-six cars including Canadians Paul Tracy, Alex Tagliani and James Hinchcliffe made up the field for a race that was a complete demolition derby. Continue reading
