It’s time for Magyar Nagydij! While I’ve never been a fan of the Hungaroring, the combination of low grip and low-speed that requires high downforce takes the perpetual Mercedes advantage away so that the field can have a legitimate chance at victory without a fluke happening. The last time Mercedes won in Hungary was before the Turbo V6 engine formula was introduced. Could they pull of the victory this time? The F1 Power Rankings attempts to answer that question.

Wednesday Link-Off: In Depth
This has been a pretty intense week in the worlds of news and politics. The Republican National Convention has been sidetracked by another Trump distraction. This time, it’s his wife plagiarizing a speech. The whole Trump campaign has been distracting everyone from the issues to focus on him so if you don’t talk about the issues, you can’t beat him on them. It’s worked to this point and it’s working this week. There’s also more chaos in Turkey and Fox News is in turmoil.
Anyway, it’s time for us to do the links. Since a model features prominently in this set of links, let’s kick off with model Alessandra Ambrosio.
It’s not looking very cheery at the Republican National Convention and that’s just on-screen. There’s a lot more turmoil behind the scenes. (Politico)
While I’m not sure anyone can accuse Donald Trump of stealing his words (the best words) from anyone else, the same can’t be said for his wife. She plagiarized a large portion Michelle Obama’s speech from the 2008 Democratic Convention. (USA Today)
Overlooked in the plagiarism scandal is the rhetoric that is being spouted at the RNC. (Vox)
Formula One: 2016 Silverstone Mid-Season Test Recap
For the second time this season, the teams of Formula One stayed a few extra days after a grand prix for an in-season test. With most of the teams having exhausted their experienced driver test days, most of this test was a Young Drivers’ Test in all but name. However, experience still carried the two days of the test as the fastest times were set by the 2nd and 3rd most experienced men on the grid.

Sunday Link-Off: Take It From the Top
You can’t say that this weekend hasn’t been interesting in the world of politics. From this side of the world to the east of Europe, there has been interesting developments, for better or worse. Between Trump, Turkey and the Rio Olympics, you can’t say that we’re lacking for news this weekend.
Anyway, it’s Sunday which means we have to do the other half of the weekend links. Let’s kick off with ESPN personality Michelle Beadle.
Is it possible that Donald Trump hurt his election chances with Independents more by picking Mike Pence as his running mate? (Sacramento Bee)
It’s an interesting choice because the two don’t agree on several important issues. Well, they didn’t agree but who can keep them tied to one position on an issue? (New York Times)
Trump is all about his branding. Somehow, a man so powered by his brand let a terrible logo be used for his campaign. (The Hill)
Trials of the Blood Dragon Review: Crossed-Up Crossover
Not everything from E3 that was given to the public to play was a demo. During their press conference, Ubisoft not only announced but launched the surprise Trials of the Blood Dragon game. The game promised to be a crossover of the crazy action of the Trials series with the setting and motif of Far Cry: Blood Dragon. As much as critics and gamers love each of those games individually, when you combine the two franchises, the result is the exact of what you would expect from either franchise.
Console Prices Through the Years (Infographic)
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but we’re quite big fans of video games here at The Lowdown. While we can argue all day as to what was the best era of gaming, we can objectively examine if gaming is more expensive now than it was when many of us started. After all, the Xbox One was effectively killed on arrival with a $500 price tag but is that price unprecedented in gaming? We have a handy infographic to answer that question.
Wednesday Link-Off: The Road to Hell
They say that the road to hell is paved with the best intentions. A lot of the stories featured in today’s links are those taking questionable actions with the best of intentions. However, the results are taking society down a slippery slope.
Anyway, it’s Wednesday which mean’s that it’s time for the links. Let’s kick things off with Jill Hennessy.

Were you imprisoned because of a police roadside drug test? Chances are that it could have been a false positive. (Pro Publica)
F1 British Grand Prix: A Bronx Cheer
The British Grand Prix started behind the safety car because of standing water on the track. Fans complained about the overly cautious start to the race but little did they know that this start to the race would make for the most exciting part of the afternoon. Changing conditions made for some exciting moments as drivers coped with a track that was too wet for inters and then too wet for slicks.
Lewis Hamilton ended up winning his home grand prix in a race that will likely be remembered for the first penalty from F1’s radio rules.
