Entertainment Link-Off: Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum

eleanor-tomlinson-jackthegiantslayer13-01This wouldn’t be a bad weekend to play catch-up at the theatres or just watch the trailers. This weekend’s wide releases aren’t exactly hits with critics. Just when you were worried that everyone would try to be The Hangover, 21 & Over proves that films now want to be Project X which is great if you run a torrent site. The Last Exorcism Part II is out which begs the question of if anyone can remember The Last Exorcism Part I. Stoker is reasonably well reviewed but I’m not sure it’s actually a wide release.

That leaves Jack and The Giant Slayer, another movie with a “dark” take on a fairy tale. It’s not getting great reviews but it’s being better received than the rest of the wide releases. That’s what happens when you give Obi-Wan Kenobi a lead role. Also in a lead role is relative newcomer Eleanor Tomlinson.

After the jump, the latest on some sci-fi and fantasy sequels, the buzz about the upcoming Superman re-reboot, some Marvel comic book movie news and more. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Fear the Dark

nadine-velazquez_fhmg_msp1Since it’s Saturday again, it’s time for another dose of the Entertainment Link-Off. Time sure flies as we are closing in on the end of February. Two noteworthy releases in theatres this week include the sci-fi/horror alien flick Dark Skies and the other film would be Snitch starring Dwayne Johnson. The latter might look like another typical action vehicle for The Rock but who doesn’t like a good rock’em sock’em movie right? Plus it has some eye candy like Nadine Valazquez…

After the jump, Michael Bay and Megan Fox kissed and made up, Christoph Waltz takes on the Romans, watch Ben Affleck’s atrocious first short film, Alison Brie tests her freestyle rapping skills and get over here for another run at Mortal Kombat: Legacy.  Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Yippe Ki-Yay WTF

emmy rossumLooks like a weekend of rotten films at the silver screens. Normally I would plug A Good Day to Die Hard, but word has it, the film is a major step back compared to all the past Die Hard films. Well, I guess you could check out Beautiful Creatures, but not for the storyline though. It’s for the eye candy… namely Emmy Rossum.

After the jump, some progress on Hunger Games flicks, new interesting concept art for Pacific Rim, watch the special hilarious special of Between Two Ferns, watch Vin Diesel belt out one of Rihanna’s tunes and watch Wreck It Ralph in live action! Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: The Bitter Pill

rooney mara allure 1After a whole month hiatus, I am finally back to check in with a weekly dose of the Entertainment Link-Off. I’m sure Steve is glad to hand this back to me now that I got internet access again. So let’s kick off the ELO with Rooney Mara, who can be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s final theatrical film Side Effects.

After the jump, some news on spider related films, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut might be too explicit for the MPAA, Justice League going through some script troubles, guess who turned out the Superbowl lights, a fake oral history on Studio 60, watch how Return of the Jedi would have ended if JJ Abrams made it and a sneak peak at Fast and Furious 6. Entertainment Link-Off: Face Off!

alexandra daddarioThe new year is here! Since the Christmas movies are still out in full force, don’t expect many wide releases to compete for the box office crown for a little while. Opening this weekend is Texas Chainsaw 3D. Whether this will revive the flailing franchise will be up to the audiences to decide. Starring in this movie is Alexandra Daddario, who can also be seen in first season of White Collar. Anyway, let’s just kick off the first ELO of 2013 with her.

After the jump, a few trailers to see, Quentin Tarantino loves his pop culture references, some Star Trek stuff and eat a Hobbit meal in 20 minutes. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Fight. Dream. Hope. Love.

Emma WatsonIt’s time for another edition of the Entertainment Link-Off. Due to the holidays, it has been a bit slow on the news, but there are still a few noteworthy things to check out. There’s not many new releases this weekend, but if you haven’t had a chance to check out The Hobbit, Jack Reacher or Les Miserables, this might be your chance. Let’s kick off the last ELO of 2012 with Emma Watson only because I recently saw The Perks of Being A Wallflower and thought it was a fantastic film.

After the jump have another look at the lack of creativity in poster design, check out the most pirated TV shows and movies, a few Star Trek tidbits, How I Met Your Mother is sticking around for another season, the worst movies of 2012 review themselves, watch the first four minutes of Warm Bodies and Ed the Sock shares a story about Christina Aguilera. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Almost There

Katie Sackhoff and Tricia HelferIt’s time for the Entertainment Link-Off! It’s been a few busy weeks, so Steve has taken on the great task to cover the random entertainment news of the week. In theatres this weekend is the actioner Jack Reacher starring Tom Cruise or you can check out the Knocked Up spin off This is 40 starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. If none of those suit your fancy, might as well check out The Hobbit again. Anyway, to make up for my absence, here’s a double dose of eye candy for you this week. Let’s kick it off with some Battlestar Galactica babes Tricia Helfer and Katie Sackhoff.

After the jump, check out the teaser for Star Trek: Into Darkness, movie mistakes galore, Samuel L. Jackson and Anne Hathaway have a sad-off, find out why Gandalf never rode on the eagles and a new Christmas tune to check out. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Bite the Dust

At the movies this weekend, there will be no competition for those sparkling vampires in Twilight. Just go watch Skyfall instead if you haven’t had the chance ya? That being said, there is still eye candy to be seen in the vamp flicks, so let’s start this off with Ashley Greene shall we?

After the jump, a few trailers to check out, Transformers actually moving to China this time (maybe), Tarantino setting a retirement point, GRR takes on JRR, learn how to make Chef’s Chocolate Salty Balls and watch TBBT do Call Me Maybe. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Dream A Little

It’s time for another edition of the ELO. Let’s kick it off with Amanda Seyfried in her latest shoot with Vanity Fair. You can catch her next in the film adaptation of Les Miserables in December.

After the jump, Kevin Smith tells Disney not to screw up Star Wars, Transformers 4 has a new lead, some zombie film related material and Wikipedia can possibly predict box office success. Continue reading

Entertainment Link-Off: Sucker Punch

This weekend at the box office, there’s the fun animated video game inspired film Wreck It Ralph. There’s also Denzel as the pilot that saved the day in Flight. Finally, there’s the stylistic actioner The Man with the Iron Fists featuring Jamie Chung. Let’s just start this off with her shall we?

After the jump Star Wars is now part of Disney, someone is stealing the minions, more Twilight for us all (we’re doomed) and Mitt Romney will cause the zombie apocalypse. Continue reading
