When I live-blogged Raw is Trump a few weeks back, I mentioned that The Donald was going to have a celebrity guest host in charge of Monday Night Raw every week. Just because Trump is gone doesn’t mean that the WWE have given up on celebrity hosts. Now, NBA and Twitter superstar Shaquille O’Neal will be the guest host on WWE Monday Night Raw next week.
Shaq will be the fifth guest host since WWE launched the summer ratings grab. Previous hosts were Batista, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Seth Green (yes, Chris Griffin), and ZZ Top. One account I read said that ZZ Top was nauseatingly bad on this week’s Raw. Shaq has made wrestling appearances in the past (including at WWE events and seconding Hulk Hogan at a WCW Title match in Orlando) and is a wrestling fan. That and his 7-foot-plus sized sense of humour should make him perfect for the role.
The only thing that the WWE might have thought through better is that Monday’s show is coming from Washington, D.C. That just happens to be home to the Wizards. As popular as Shaq is, I have to wonder if he might face the wrath of Wizards fans. Or worse, he might face the wrath of a bad guy in a Wizards uniform.
So, live blog anyone?
UPDATE: We will live blog this episode of Raw. Check the front page just around 9:00 PM.
